Got mine with a mug and catalogue which rivals the yellow pages for size.

Facebook launches an app as hg says. My code still didn't work, so I emailed and they've given me £10 credit.

You're probably right about the mobile issue.
Will try again at home from work.

To everyone who's had a credit for the 10 euros. I've had one which reads as credit note but it's all in German. Is it a 10 euro refund, voucher, credit note? If so, how do you use it?

Thanks,

Ryan

It's a voucher, comes straight off your bill.

You can get a new code if you remove the facebook app and add it again too.

I aware of that but it wouldn't allow me to input it at checkout so i emailed them after i did the order and they replied with what translates as a £10 credit note. However, I've no idea how to use it as it isn't on my account?

Re rotors:

You can get what looks like XT icetech rotors cheapo from rosebikes too:

http://www.rosebikes.co.uk/article/shimano-deore-xt-brake-disc-sm-rt76/aid:368166

I've got some on their way from germany along with a mystery gift.

Unfortunately they're the non ice tech ones, the ice tech ones have a wee label on the carrier and are a different model. I think I'll get them anyway and get some ice tech if I go the Alps next year. I hope these brakes aren't in anyway dependent on the new pads/discs to behave favorably for extended DH? Fingers crossed the bring out a 6 bolt SLX icetech rotor!

The Ice tecs are the 86, not the 76

Which do people feel looks best. Black or silver ones. If anyone decides to get rid of a pair after deciding they don't want them please give me a shout.

How do they compare with the elixr's

Cheers

Got the discount code when doing it from the laptop rather than mobile.

I decided on just getting Hope floating rotors as am a bit of a weight weenie and the RT76s are rather heavy and rotational weight at that.

I have ordered them expecting to be able to pay by debit card but not an option for the U.K, so have gone for advanced payment.

I'm guessing I have to go into a Lloyds bank to pay rather than instructing my bank to pay into the Lloyds payable account? I've clearly never had to do a payment this way before.

Things you have to do so the other half doesn't know you're buying more bike bits eh!!!

Thanks again Slackman99! Just had my first decent ride with the brakes.
I thought they wouldn't be much improvement on my old XTRs...
Wrong!
I thought 1 finger braking wouldn't make much difference...
Wrong!
Great stuff.. I made em smoke too 🙂

I could only see options for Paypal, credit cards or prepayment.I take it you just go through the credit card option for a debit card?

Will check my order and see if I can change the payment method on-line tonight, if not I'll contact them tomorrow to pay by debit card.

Re; Hope floaters not being light- I know there are plenty lighter but I meant compared to the Shimano ones. Hopes add a bit of bling too with colour options.

Just put mine on. Due to the short lever blades I've had to mount the brakes outboard (oh the shame) and cant really get my seatpost droppist in the right place, brakes do seem good though. Resin pads with aluminium backs should last tomorrows night ride, will get some sintered superstars.

I bought one pair of each colour - fitted the black ones onto my red and black Epic and plan to put the silver ones on my ML8.

I think the black calipers look better, but prefer the silver levers I think!

Will test them again tomorrow, but very pleased so far!

Haven't really paid this thread any attention at all, but having a quick look these look great. Just about to order a set - anything I should know? Already emailed about the £10 off for the facebook like. And I already know about them being the euro way round (might give it a try for a while, got it set up that way on my bmx..).

just been out with my new set, i have replaced them for hope tech v2s, got the shimano rotors as well, not ice tech
initial impressions
lighter than the v2s
they are a lot chunkier than the v2s, and i dont think they look as good
not as progressive as the v2s
BUT... much more power than the hopes, no dragging on the rotors, which i sometimes got with the hopes
levers feel a lot nicer on the xts
think i will keep them on for 90% of the time and swap back to the hopes for trips abroad

Is there a massive difference? Thinking of chopping in my Hopes as I quite like the grabby feel of the Shimanos I've tried.

seems to be a lot more power with the xts, more solid feel to them, and id only just bled the v2s
dont get me wrong v2s are excellent brakes, but the xts feel better again

Ollie - black. The silver levers look nice but I think the calipers look quite cheap, particularly compared with the lovely CNCed Hopes.

First proper test ride tonight and mightily impressed. Crazy amounts of power but with great feel and modulation. One fast DH section and I was playing about with tiny flicks on the levers and the retardation was mental!

Considerably more power than the Hope Tech M4s on my ML8.

In a slight edit to my above post, to be fair, the Hope X2s and M4s both must have the same power as they can all lock the wheels and stop me very quickly. The main difference with the XTs is the amount of effort you need to put in for this to happen (as in not a lot!).

In the Alps I suffered slightly from finger pump with my Hopes and sometimes had to change braking fingers. I'm pretty sure that given how little effort the XTs need to give the same stopping ability, this wouldn't be the case.

I'm almost tempted by these.

The only thing that's stopping me is the potential Shimano issues in cold weather - calipers leaking etc... I really hope that it does not apply to 785s.

My 775s used to firm up in very very cold weather, never had any of my three previous sets of shimano brakes leak though.

my 775's did the same, use to be rock hard once it got mega cold, very very hard to brake with too -

not had the formulas in for winter yet, but im hopeful they continue to be as brilliant as they have been through summer

the new xts look awful on the bars though - design looks really old fashioned and bulky 🙁

Ordered a black set this morning and should get them by the middle of the week.

Will my Hope rear 160 adaptor fit or does it need to be a shimano specific one? Some people seem to be getting adaptors included and some not which seems odd.

Could do without having to order one if the one I have will be fine.

Sorry, bit late, but pretty sure it will (if you mean postmount calliper to IS fork/frame adapter). Mine was off an old set of cable pull disc brakes.

Did we decide whether or not the XT were sufficiently different to the SLX to warrant the difference in price? If it's just the free stroke adjustment I can probably live without it.

I think I prefer the look of the SLX's and I can put the difference towards some discs.

If I were buying another set.
Which I most certainly am not.

Which I most certainly am not.

Dammit, saying it twice doesn't make it sound any more believable...

On the M775's once the piston seals leaked the caliper had to thrown out.
I wonder if these can be replaced on the new model as the caliper can be split?

Dangerboy

I've got the SLXs my friend has XTs.
If you don't need the free stroke adjust then get SLXs (unless you really want that 'XT' logo on your bike).

Someone mentioned something about different materials? No idea where that info came from but it's not correct. Both are metal and plastic in all the right places.
It's a lot cheaper for manufacturers to make products that share parts. It's only when you drop down to Deore that things become noticeably different - google some pics.

SLX vs XT the detail-

The caliper is exactly the same (different paint of course), both have ceramic pistons and both are 'two piece'.
SLX has a split pin and XT has the 'screw pin' pad retention. (The SLX caliper being the same is threaded so it could take the screw pin).

Same hoses / olives / bangos etc.

The lever bodies are the same. The hole for the free stroke adjustment is plugged up on the SLX lever.
The lever assemblies that fit into body are different.
The reservoir caps are shaped differently.

Different paint job.
And the SLXs look nicer.

Identical power / modulation / feel. Impossible the tell the difference.

Cheers

Looking at the lever assemblies, SLX will likely be more reliable in the long term... the slot for freestroke adjustment on the XTs is a likely candidate for play over time.

Power and modulation is more than good enough to only need one finger braking - however two fingers will fit as long as they are not like sausages

My current brakes are kack so two is needed, but if theyre as good as people say maybe I will just have to use one!

Also, has anyone ordered when it says out of stock? What sort of times do they tell you?

the silver have been OOS for over a week I believe, the black were in stock a few days ago, you need to check on black stock, if you haven't already.

I've always used 2 fingers - and I've always said on here it makes no difference. In a rare event for a STWer, I admitted I was wrong!
1 finger braking is great!
