I have the year before model which was pretty much the same but blue + GRX crank and I thought that was decent value at RRP so these seem a good old bargain to me. All sizes too!

Thanks for that! Just ordered one. Only £90/month 0% so seems like an absolute no brainer

Looks good. I’d want a bigger cassette but you really can’t grumble for that money

I ordered one a couple of days ago 😀

I've really been enjoying my secondhand Boardman, but this is exactly the bike I'd been eyeing up as a future replacement - so it seemed daft not to.

Anyone run a bigger cassette with that GRX mech then?

stated max of 36 teeth on a 400 mech. I bet you could go a bit bigger but probably no dinnerplates unless you use a goatlink or similar

Ignore that bollocks - misread the spec

Must.. resist..!!

Longer wheelbase and 1.5° slacker head angle would address one of the only niggles with my NS RAG+ (toe overlap).. hmm.

Ha, happens to us all.

The 812 is officially rated for 42t but I think I recall people saying they've gone a bit bigger with no mods.

40 x 11-42t generally does me fine, but 11-46t might be useful sometimes.

Oh, looks great, would be ace for my Pennine Bridleway trip in July, but I've got enough bikes.

I've got size 12 bike shoes and have had absolutely no issue with toe overlap on mine.

Worth saying the finish of the frame is really good too, the paint is lovely and deep and feels a lot more premium than my old On-One or my mate's Vitus which I guess are the competition at this price?

I’ve been eyeing up gravel bikes for a while now! That does look a good deal

I’m 5’8” and size chart puts me top of small/ bottom of medium. Anyone else a similar height?
I’m on a medium sentinel and medium bfemax if that helps?!

I'm the same height and confidently ordered a medium - based on the geometry of my current gravel bike being pretty similar and suiting me well.

I have short legs/long torso, but that doesn't seem to affect road/gravel bike sizing so much as MTB, for me.

Amanda tested the latest one: https://singletrackworld.com/gritcx/2023/02/ragley-trig-review/

And I tested the earlier model: https://singletrackworld.com/gritcx/2020/09/ragley-trig-adventure-good-enough-to-turn-the-head-of-a-mountain-biker/

I wanted to keep the review model but Hotlines asked for it back, and at the time I couldn't justify the price they were asking. Once it had gone I realise how much I missed it and at this price it seemed daft not to get one back in my garage

Same here - I buckled! 🤣

Just have to decide whether to a) run it as it comes, b) strip it and rebuild with my old parts c) scratch the drop-bar AXS itch...

The only change I'm making is whipping off that FSA chainset and BB, and replacing with the GRX 600 off my existing bike.

I have some spare cash lying around, but it's ringfenced for moving costs. This would be ideal for me looks like a great bike.

Don't think you will regret it as they give a very smooth ride, very comfortable. I'm not the best person to ask for a review as I'm still trying to get used to drops and still have not found a pair that don't make my shoulders suffer but it's definitely quicker on gravel/road/canal than my old rigid Whippet and can cope with a fair bit off.

The only thing I'd change would be a slightly higher front end but, as mentioned, I think that's a me issue rather than bike as comparing it to plenty of others it's well within ball park for normal.

Size wise I'd probably size up as the seat tube is short so I have plenty of post showing on my XL and I'm usually between L and XL.

All things considered I don't think you'll find much to touch it at that price so enjoy!

Oh, I changed the tyres too as they were a bit aggressive for my pottering. They're great if you go off road a fair bit though.

Just got the dispatch email from CRC

😀

I have some 700c wheels with WTB Raddlers which I'll be able to swap on and off with the stock 650b ones.

Looking forward to trying the smaller wheels as I do mainly ride off-road with a fair bit of singletrack.

Reckon they'll "bring the trail alive"?

I also ordered one on Thursday 😊 bit worried about the low stack but I plan on flipping the stem, I'd been thinking about doing one on the bike to work scheme but this is even cheaper than that.

I've been procrastinating about a gravel bike for about a month kept coming back to the trig the price drop sealed the deal..amazing spec for the price...just need to find some pedals now any recommendations?(clipless)

I just use Shimano PD M520's on mine.

BTW, the Ragley saddle is just a Charge Spoon with a different cover, or at least mine is.

Aghhhh.

I don't need this. By that I mean I don't need the wifely hassle of another bike in the shed. But....I need this - this is exactly (as in absolutely exactly) the bike I've wanted at a price I can almost justify.

But....I'm slap bang between the M and L for sizing. One feels too small on paper, one too big. Any other long legged 180cm riders own one?

Why am I always between sizes!

@convert

I'm 5'7.5"

I'm right between a small and a medium, I've sized up and I would if I were you too the 7mmm increase in reach for a 28mm increase in stack "should".... Translate to a much more comfortable bike for the sort of riding it's intended for as long as you have enough seat tube to get a decent saddle height (which is 500mm on the large)

Try comparing it to a bike you own or have ridden on geometry geeks it's free and quite helpful

If you are between sizes I'd go bigger, as mentioned before as the seat tube is pretty short and you can always shorten the stem etc. My old Marin 4 corners was the other way and I always struggled to make the XL fit where as the Trig isn't a problem.

Thanks all. I ordered a size large last night based on the same logic as others have used. The headtube length is very short (a Brant legacy?) so it made the most sense. I'm going to set mine up very mtb like with a zero layback dropper and switch the bars to something wider with a shorter reach and drop (woodchipper ?) so I think it will all work out.

So....if anyone has bought a medium or a small and fancies swapping their 80mm stem for my 90mm stem that would save two spares boxes from more waste! PM me.

Unusually excited about this - I reckon I'll be selling off a bike or two as this will do so much I want a bike to do. It might well end up being my cheapest (at this discount price) but most used bike.

So looking forward to this, never tried gravel bike before and i reckon it will take over as road bike as well for my humble pottering around the East Midlands. Save my "big bike" for proper days out then!!

Anyone know which replacement brake pads fit the GRX400 caliper on this..?
If the ones on this are anything like Sram Rival pads I hav eon another bike, which seem to only last a matter of a few weeks of moderate use, I'll be needing replacements before too long...
I think LO5A & LO4C finned pads both fit; anyone tried alternatives, such as generic Deore etc pads, are any of these the same critical dimensions and suitable?

L02A and L03A are the same size, just without the fins, I think. Ive used Gorilla pads and currently on some from eBay (NoahandTheo). They're fine/good. Unfortunately, my commute doesn't include an alp so I've yet to overheat the non-finned ones.

This link seems to suggest compatibility with their road groupsets. So I guess anything that fins those will fit the GRX calipers.

I had it in my head that they were the same as Deore/SLX/XT single pots, but perhaps that's not the case?

In other (much more exciting) news, my bike is on the way to the local depot.

I imagine you might be able to fit a front mech but there are no cable guides fitted for that and there's a hole for a dropper cable near the bottom of the seat tube that might get in the way.

Thanks, not by design then.

Previous models came with either 1x or 2x and I don't think the geometry has changed year on year so the frame may be the same - might be worth an email to Ragley to confirm. Also, the cable guides are bolt and they sell different versions - looking at the bike images it may well come with the triple version anyway.

Is anyone running a dropper? Presumably it is external up until the seat-tube?

Out for delivery today

😀

Mine's dispatched but no tracking yet. Fingers crossed it turns up before the long weekend!

@TheGingerOne - one image on the Off-Road CC review shows a bottom bracket cable guide in place on a recent purple frame, so it should be quite straightforward to convert to a 2x bottom pull setup.

Going out on a limb....would prefer purple. Will blend in nicely with the bus stops round here (purple is the office Highland council colour) 😃

Blue is too much like the old fleet of 2007 odd Kona Jake's I used to look after. Would give me twitching flashbacks to trying to align the pads on those canti brakes made of cheese they had.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a more purple tinge IRL too.

GRX400 brakes can use K03S and the more recent K05S (no fins)/L05A (fins)
It's sometimes easier to look for Shimano RS805/RS505 compatible pads; the newer shimano pads last longer.
The disc will specify resin pads (or not)

Are the pistons prone to sticking ?

Mine haven't ~3years. The problem is the slot head screw that retains the brake pad (part 11 on this drawing

)
If it corrodes it's a pain to remove

Here are a few pics of mine from yesterday eve.

On Insta so you'll have to click, sorry (blame STW for never fixing the embed functionality, not me).

Very pleased apart from the rear brake is a bit borked, was getting less power throughout ride until just pulling to bar. I'll need to see if I can find a leak.

Frame feels comfy. Not sure the 650b wheels will be for me most of the time, but they do kind-of make the trail come alive now and then.

Still no despatch note for a Friday evening purchase. Still, as I've not yet broached the purchase with the household financial manager, that's probably not a bad think 😃
