It may look a bit fetched, but from what I've heard it has great reviews. I think I'd be tempted for my next HT!
Here's my XL, stock build apart from Rethal bars and Odi's. As you can see it's nearly as long as a Berlingo!
The orange is a bit 'hi-viz' but it was the only colour in stock in the sale at the time. Will get Nitromors'd / clear coated at some point.

Next FS will only have 2 bearings!
A man after my own heart - Orange or Starling?
I quite like the 'dyno-rod orange' - at least you won't lose the bike!
Morph FS based out of Guildford. 150 forked 142mm rear travel 29er.
Ooh that's nice, lovely bit of filet brazing.
I've just gone to a Starling myself, turns out steel actually is real.
😀
Yeah they ride great. Steel is fun and fast!
Sweet build that. Looks nice with those grey Zebs 😎 enjoy giving it a good beating!
So after a few laps of the local I have to say I am pretty impressed. It charges way harder than many other hardtails. First ride and I trust the traction on it completely. The 170mm Zeb and 27.5 ride so well. Even with 175mm cranks no issues on some of the rooty and rocky climbs. I do not think I would want this bike in 29er form. Maybe if I lived somewhere with really long trails.
It is heavy but I did not notice it much coming off a heavy ripmo AF. I would say it maybe pedals better or more comfortable.

Been round Cannock Chase on mine today - I'm still amazed by how quick it turns when darting through swoopy tree runs yet when you weight the middle of the bike and let it off its leash it's perfectly stable.
You have to move around a lot and if you don't weight the front it will push on but new school LLS geometry is brilliant for a lanky bugger like me.
It's a surprisingly fun bike, innit?
I mulleted mine with a plus tyre this weekend. Great fun.
Glad some people got some fun out of my PSA. They look rad built up!
Lovely looking frame.
Is that the stream gap jump at fort William? I thought it was closed for everything but the world cup? A) props for riding it, it's massive b) when is it open?
What's the head angle at with 170mm forks? It's 62 degrees at 150mm, isn't it?!
If I had space I'd have one of these, slap on a pair of cheap lyriks and a beefy/cheap set of wheels and you're good.

It's open pretty much all the time now- they reshaped it a lot after the first year or so to make it more sensible for the public. Landing is lower now and less abrupt, so it's less all-or-nothing than it was. Though the approach is a bit awkward now imo.
It still shits me up though just because it's made of wood!
I think it's only the big doon and a section of world cup woods that's closed to the public now. Though I'm honestly not sure what the "real" lines are now before the big doon, there's some good stuff that seems mothballed.

Definitely! It has been a pretty fun bike. Really look forward to riding it all the time. The Moxie was excellent but I feel this is better. Maybe heavier, not have an ED coating but the stability and confidence make it one of the best hardtails I have ridden to date. It is not slow either on the ups. The large is comfortable, just sit and spin. Was really impressed yesterday climbing around Bridge of Allan and then up to Dumyat. Heading back down there is a drop you can hit quite fast into some rocks and it felt really good. Then down into Witches Craig there are some nice fast sections that go into root steeps. Bike handled it really well. Really fun. Clips making a difference no doubt on the rough sections. Frame is stiffer than the Moxie.
For the money you can't go wrong. Will just see how long the frame lasts.

That was testing the morph proto trail frame 142 rear with a 150 lyrik. Poor cane creek inline air took it like a champ and a few 1000mi later has just blown. The whole bike has been battered but with quality steel it has plenty of life left. Just two bearings like an Orange. Uses the same bearing kit and extractor.
Frame is stiffer than the Moxie.
That is why i got rid of my v1. flex meant 29 wheel with a 2.3 tyre (max it could take) rubbed HARD when cornering. They lied saying it could take 29 basically.
Killed damper number 2 on the Pikes on my Dave at the weekend at Gawton. Can’t afford a Zeb but managed to find a new Domain for £395 so I’ve gone for that. Hopefully it’s ok, not expecting the same damper performance as my Zeb ultimate but I’m looking forward to some extra stiffness. Amazes me every time I take it to a proper dh venue just how capable it is (I’ve just found the limits of the forks).
I wouldve bitten Brants arm off for one of them a few years ago, back when i had time and inclination to find and ride filthly local DH tracks.
I wouldve gone singlespeed myself, as i wouldve been pushing it back up anyway.
As it is, i dont get time to play with the bikes ive got. Boooo.
Whats the story behind the name then? who's a bellend?
Whats the story behind the name then?
your my wife now was it not? i.e they took them over /bought them all up from the guy in south america making them for sick?
Yeah they were the sick bicycle frames, the name comes from the league of gentleman character, Papa Papa Lazarou.
'You're my wife bike now' 😁
How are you all getting on with your Dave's?
As much as I wanted to click buy on the orange one, I decided it was too much bike for what I would use it for.
Saying that, I do keep checking and they haven't sold out yet and I am still tempted...
Been enjoying mine. Use it all around the local hills up to 700meters. Was on a Moxie Mx3 before and I feel like this just rides better. Even on the flat. It is nice having the ability to hit all the steep stuff on the way down. Not saying the Moxie can't. This just feels way more solid at speed and does net get deflected as easily or feel so. Need a 240mm dropper next! Still have 30mm showing on a large frame with a oneup 210. My plan was to ride it and then transfer all the parts to the Airdrop Slacker when available.
A ti loco moto will be a bit quicker for all round use.
Still loving mine (XL orange one in the pics above). Only bike used for everything - XC/bimbling about/caning the absolute shit out of downhill.
Bit wandery on climbs but it plods up stuff fine.
Excellent VFM.
How are you all getting on with your Dave’s?
Love it!
I've got a big birthday coming up and was toying with the idea of switching to a Moxie, but after trying one out, I realised just exactly how much I love the Dave. It's almost perfect for what/where I ride.
Still absolutely love mine. It’s soooo heavy for a hardtail but it’s so good on full on dh stuff. Not much of an all rounder imo, but for bimbling up and hammering down its great. The only frame I would contemplate changing mine for would be the ti version, the Titus loco moto as mentioned above. That’s a bargain at the minute at £500.
I may try the XL with the prices still great. That orange!
I have 27.5 wheels and a 170mm Zeb which is taller than most other 170mm forks. Head angle now is 61deg and seat angle is 76 degrees. Feels pretty good. I got on a Np Scout the other day and it just felt a bit plain compared.
