Just in case anyone is planning a trip tomorrow (and the weather forecast is to be believed), the road is shut.

Probably due to frozen slush but they havent put a sign at the bottom - it's 3/4 up and I had to reverse back down a bit.

Did you go riding? What are the trails like?

Sure did - back about an hour. I was in two minds about going but I really enjoyed it. There's around 2 inches show at the top and its starting to freeze. The worst bits are the fire roads where vehicles have been - turned to frozen slush. Otherwise grip is ok (better than I was expecting).

They're doing work at the top of spooky woods - the first few drops are closed.

What tyres to get to the car park?

You mean to drive up or cycle?

On the bike its fine with knobbies (pref mud tyres), in the car I'd be reluctant. I might get up but dont know about getting down safely.

Maybe I'm missing somehing obvious here, but why should the fact the road to the Buzzard's Nest closed have any effect on someone mountain biking at Glentress? If I had my way I'd keep it shut all the time, given the way some idiots (only I small minority I admit) drive up and down it, especially at weekends.

I'd be prepared to hazard a guess its because its really handy having the car next to the jumps for food/repair etc.

kennyp - what about me taking my young kids?
They're not big or strong enough to start at the bottom but enjoy the Green, skills loop and Blue velvet..

Chris, you're actually right. I'd forgotten about the green. Apologies.

I was more having a dig at some of the morons who drive up and down that road like it's a rally track.

Hoping to get down there myself tomorrow.
Bottom carpark is the usual starting point, but the Spooky woods drops is a little more upsetting ๐Ÿ™

Are the trails themselves icing over ?
