Just turn off mobile data and leave wifi on. Surely that's an option on all phones (is what I do if worried about data usage)?

Wifi direct only disables normal Wifi in the same sense that connecting to a Wifi Access Point disables normal Wifi (with other access points).

It's taken me ages to get around to uploading. The Youtube quality is poor. The native file looks pin sharp on a 40 inch tv at full hd. Notice the image stabilisation, that's the main advantage. Works amazing compared to the GoPro.
This is my AS15 in action:

Gave mine its first run last night. A great bit of kit. I spent twice as much on a decent 32Gb memory card (which gives over 4hrs of recording) and a bundle mount pack including a handlebar mount, wrist mount and an adjustable angle mount. The quality of the mounts are very good - a lot bigger and chunkier than Go Pro mounts, which may limit some applications. Also the handlebar mount attaches horizontally so the camera screws in a good 3 or 4 inches away from the handlebar rather than on top of the handlebar as with a Go Pro. Its pretty firm and works well though I have noticed some high frequency vibration when you're going over some terrain, which I guess is the whole mount waggling up and down. It only lasts for a few seconds so doesn't really detract from the overall quality that much. The quality seems as good as any Go Pro quality i've seen - but I've not got a trained eye - I don't know what barrelling is.

Overall for an outlay of £200 i'm chuffed. The battery life seems to be superior to a GoPro, it seems easier to use than a GoPro and i've now ordered a GoPro conversion mount so can use GoPro mounts. The GoPro is still the daddy, but this thing makes it look very overpriced - at £99 at least.

The WiFi mode works well. I left it on the bike on the roof bike rack and through the App I could see what it was seeing on my iPhone when driving. Also while driving I could turn on and off recording.

It has GPS but i'm not sure what it actually does, but i've only just started playing with it. Anyway thanks to the OP for the heads up - a nice little gadget. I've been wanting a GoPro for ages but not wanting to pay for one, but this is an excellent alternative at this reduced price.

I got a Sandisc Extreme Plus 32gb. It cost me £51 but I got it from Manchester Airport Duty Free as I was impatient so I'm sure you could get it cheaper. Over 4hrs of full HD footage at 30fps. Just think of the volume of dreary singletrack footage I can take!

I'm really pleased with it, it works, to all intents and purposes, every bit as well as a GoPro. The mounts are a bit bulky, but you can get an adapter to use GoPro mounts so that sorts that problem out.

Just checking, have you noticed that the micro sd cards go in the opposite way to the sony m2 cards?

The cheapest you can get the AS30v is now £150. Is it worth that price?

I got one of these to convert to go pro mounts...

http://www.actioncameras.co.uk/gopro-mount-adapter?

It's a nice bit of kit. 99% as good as a go pro at a fraction of the price. The shape isn't as convenient so mounting is a bit clumsier, but it's way simpler to operate.

I went to uni in Lancaster. Wish I'd had a bike then, that looks ace and only down the road.

Got a sandisk ultra 64gb (class 10) in mine and no problems. Bought it from Costco so I know it's a real sandisk one (£27 i think) and it works fine.

I've decided to save up for the AS100 so my AS15 is for sale at a bargain price if anyone's still not managed to get themselves a Sony.
