Hi All,
Following threads on here earlier in the year, someone mentioned Autan Protection Plus as a new alternative to DEET based anti mozzie spray.
It boasts two pluses:-
1. It also gives 4hrs + protection against ticks - the only one I've heard about, though haven't looked seriously!
2. It is a non DEET preperation and works on a different level, the active ingredient is not ablsorbed like DEET, which isn't nice.

Popped into Superdrug to get a few things. They are doing " 3 for 2 " on this, so got some for forthcoming french hols, 600m from the river so will need stuff!
Also will try and get some on me when next out and see if it does help keep ticks off.....
just so's ya' knows!

Are these the famous " I'll bite through armour plating " Scots midges by any chance? Haven't had any personal experience of them but understand from reports that nothing keeps them at bay!
Hope it works better for mozzies......

That was probably me. I've been using Autan active for a few years now and I like it more than most of its competitors.

AFAIK, Autan Protection Plus actually has some DEET in it, suggesting that for all its deet equivalant marketing, that it perhaps Icaridine (the active ingredient) isn't.

Anyway, it seems to do me for midges, mossies, ticks, horseflies and biting flies pretty well as it says on the packet, without the whole melting plastic, stinging eyes thing.

YMMV.
