Just got an email from superstar components. 40% off brake pads with code BRAKE40
£18 for 4 pairs of sintered is a no brainer.
I don't mind Superstars CNC'd parts, I've a couple of chainrings and they're fine; but I've given up on non-OEM brake pads from the likes of Superstar, Uberbike and so on. They're almost always less good than original equipment. The quality is too variable, the generally don't last as long, scream like witches, or just don't fit well - either the backing plate is the wrong shape or the pad material is.
I realise there's probably some placebo, but my life's a bunch easier when ordering spares.

Code for discount is BRAKE40
There are also Kevlar and organic 4 packs available
👆😂 Yeah. You can set your watch by these predictable comments about Superstar pads. Are we STILL doing that really?
I saw the offer this morning but couldn't be bothered posting it here as a PSA for exactly that old chestnut/comment.
Christ, tough crowd today.
I've had superstar pads in the past and they've always been good.
The problems with the pads were years ago.
I have to say I have always had excellent service from their Kevlar pads - a happy medium for what I get up to.
I'll bet anyone £10 they're made by the same people that make most of the other brands. There's one massive supplier in Taiwan that makes most of these aftermarket brand pads, so while they may have different/proprietary compounds and mixes, construction 'quality' tends to be a very small variance.
You should probably thank Superstar for ironing out the issues that the other brands now don't face.
I can't tell the difference between ss, uberbike and shimano. Well, that's not true, shimano pads are £££

I’ll bet anyone £10 they’re made by the same people that make most of the other brands.
I'm prepared to believe 100% that most MTB brake-pads come off the same 1 or 2 production lines. Whether the QC is the same for all of them is probably for another discussion.

I think Shimano pads are better, but I'm still happy to use Superstar for the price I've picked them up.
SS resin pads were making a bit of a racket in the Alps, but have been fine everywhere in UK (including long Scottish and Lakes mountain descents).
I've been buying Aliexpress specials at about £10 for 10 pairs. Riding in the Alps gobbles them up pretty quick - maybe 2 days on the ebike and 2 days on lifts. Maybe a little more. The resins were pretty soft, but at least they didnt wear the rotors. I'd rather wear out £1 pads than £20-£30 rotors.
Buy cheap, buy lots, experiment.
I would also add that over the years I have always found Superstar sruff to be reliable and the constant historical harping is OOO.
By any chance was this about 10+ years ago?
Last September actually. Kevlar pads on the rear.
Used them and liked them!
I’d rather wear out £1 pads than £20-£30 rotors.
Really good point, this is why I favour resin most of the time.
Shimano 4-pot brakes tend to be powerful enough that the pads aren't as critical as they might be in weaker brakes too?
Superstar always seem to be out of stock of Shimano saint pads whenever I want to get some or there is an offer on. I'll check now and if they are in stock, I'll get some as they are usually pretty decent quality and much cheaper than Shimano branded ones.
There's some good prices on Nukeproof pads on CRC. Or Lifeline. If you're scared of Superstar.
Prtty sure they aren't from the same factory, unless the factory sends out the compound for Uber/Superstar/Shimano/Disco/Gorilla/Swisstop/etc to stick to their own backing plates. Especially the finned ones, have very different plates. (I don't really care enough to respond to any replies, so don't bother coming back with your oh-so-****ing-clever put downs)
