At least I'll get three £5 vouchers then, add that to my 'investment' of about £16 from my soon to be refunded paypal balance and I'll get some stuff for cheaps

I just got an email saying that "some kids from the Shirley Estate near the back of Decathlon, Southampton, have now had to resort to playing 'dodge the dealer' and wearing Woolworth's Plimsolls instead of having fun with some pop-up tennis courts and a fold-away basketball net, just because the majority of their vouchers were used on unnecessary mid to top range cycling goodies and middle-class aspirational tents".

Or something like that.

what did you order?

you should email back and say that you are happy to wait on the delivery since you are already in contract with them to supply the item.

Here we go...

Just accept we all knew we were taking the piss, and Decathalon would be well within their rights to email us all calling us cheeky ****s. It's over man. Let it go.

Anyway, I got this version. Strangely, from David with no surname. Bit informal 😀

according to their T&C's

"Generation of an order confirmation e-mail means that Decathlon.co.uk has accepted your order, which will then form the sales contract between the Parties"

that's a legally binding statement.

not our fault they ****ed up lol

I am very sorry for the cancellation of your order.

The voucher used was created for a competition for one-person to win £40 to spend towards their trainers in the Great North Run and linked with CashforKids.

This voucher was intended for a single use as the competition prize and was not available for usage by others. We certainly did not intend this one off voucher prize to be used by our entire customer base and did not make it available ourselves other than to the competition winner. As such I hope that you will understand that we cannot complete orders made using the incorrect application of the competition voucher code.

You will be refunded within the next seven business days depending on your bank.

We very much apologise for any inconvenience caused.

?David
Commercial Director?

I read Jamie's post, thought I'd got away with it.
Then got the e-mail. Doh.
I didn't even take the piss that much. Well £65 jacket for £29 posted. 😈
Off to go outdoors for a new jacket then. 😀

So now its all blown over whats the end result? Decathlon now have hundreds, maybe thousands of new accounts opened and email addresses to aim at, hmm.

Only joking, just being overly cynical.

Did Decathlon actually invite any of you to use a voucher that could essentially give away their stock for free?

Own goal giving out a discount code as prize.
They obviously trust the general public not to pass it round. 😀

Toys out of pram

You see it all the time on HDUK. The inexplicable rage when an order placed, using a voucher never intended for the recipient, gets cancelled.

You think STW has a lot of armchair lawyers. I guarantee you, the poor bastards at Decathlon CS department, will be getting inundated with copy and pastes of their T&Cs.

Blimey. Someone passed you a voucher code you weren't entitled to use and you're bitter that they aren't going to sit there and take a massive loss to keep a load of chancers happy?

Clearly their systems aren't that rubbish, as someone's clocked that order volumes have suddenly gone through the roof and put the brakes on 😀

It is, because lots of people used it who shouldn't have.
I don't think most people are that pee'd off, I'm not, but if someone is giving away £40, are you saying you'd refuse it?

I dont think they would have made a massive loss. I think they would have made a small profit.

Seems to be working fine.. stopped even thinking about it now.
Keep looking at expensive road wheels for it and a proper off road set.

Email cancellation here too. 🙂
Decathlon are ace, fab store and products. I was almost head to toe Btwin during Tweedlove classic ride today. 45k of fun and over the bars hilarity.

There was nothing I wanted/needed so didn't miss out

And for all of those who like to tell us how amazing you're being by giving the £40 you saved to charity, well now you're saving even more money now your order is being canceled, why don't you give that to charity too? Of course make sure you tell us (I'm sure you will)

I think in this case, it's a very obvious mistake, like the odd times when things get priced up at 29.99 instead of 299.99. Nobody got into work on Friday morning and said "I'm going to set our website up to give out free stuff". It's an honest mistake - if you used a cash machine after someone and they'd not collected their money would you consider that giving away free money?

I chanced it. I did quite fancy getting the heart rate monitor. But, I knew I was chancing it. To be honest, having looked at their website I will probably use them in the future. Some quite nice stuff at good prices. Cynically you could see it as crafty marketing. Likely not. Cest la vie.

Yep cancelled here also, Im not annoyed in the slightest, tbh I would have been pleasantly suprised if they had honoured it, I only ordered a cassette and chain.

No, because that's different. It's either the banks money or the person's who left it there.
The code we used was to save £40. That's what we did. It wasn't a honest mistake on their part, it was poor testing and implementation.
I have no problem taking money from a company who can't operate a working system or test things properly.
But I'm really not that fussed. If I was, I'd be insisting they honor the order confirmation email.

Can we all have a whip round and send richmars £40. I feel bad he has lost out due to Decathlons malfeasance.

Mines cancelled too. Now I know how the voucher code originated I'm actually glad TBH. I think Decathlons technical implementation of the voucher code as a prize was very poor from an e-commerce solution POV though!
