[Closed] Proud dad content!! - My son is now officially a better rider than me

My son has only been riding (proper off road stuff) for 3 months, (before that he used to ride to school, park etc) . One day i took him out riding with me to Gisburn and he loved it, but was seriously underbiked. So i got him a decent bike at Christmas.

He has really taken to it, and he rides with such grace on the trails, and will often clear sections where i have to put my foot down etc.

Anyway today we rolled up to this monster drop off, and he said he was gonna do it.

He rolled up to it and nailed it

I couldn't believe it, i rolled up to it, but chickened out.

In every dads life there comes a VERY proud moment when your son beats you at something.

One moment you can run faster , throw further, etc, and then the day comes when you get overtaken by your kids.

Only had my mobile with me, and took a couple of pics to show his mom the size of the drop off.

It might not seem much to the seasoned pros, but prior to today the biggest drop off he had done was about 18 inches.

Thanks for indulging a very proud father!

It's pretty big compared to him mind ๐Ÿ˜ฏ ! Nice one to your son. This is why I want kids.

Everytime I go out with my son, or my daughter for that matter, I say it won't be long until you have more skills and are faster than me. So every so often in a ride, I will go off full tilt to see how the gap is going. By the end of the year I think my son will be better than me. He is 11.
Good on them I say and its nice that you can go out with them and enjoy it.

Hey Grumm - Look forward to meeting you someday.

We went out to gisburn this morning, but it was too snowy, so we made up a few trails around ashton memorial (williamsons park)

Had a blast.

Very cool but if I showed my wife a dropoff that size and said our son was riding off it she'd probably ban him from mountain biking for ever. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Its great when a son/daughter finally out rides a parent. My son can out ride me tenfold on the jumps but I can still beat him on the distance rides. Even better we raced in the same relay tean at BBF last year and all his laps beat me.love it.

Yeah would be good to go out for a ride some time - I've not been out for quite a while though due to illness. Hopefully one day ๐Ÿ™‚

Often been tempted by some of the drop-offs etc in Williamson Park.

It's amazing what they can do left to their own devices.
I took my lad to Woburn last year for his first outing on a proper mountainbike. Whilst I was unloading my bike I looked round to see him pulling endo's?
Did two cross races that year and got a 2nd and 1st then gave it all up.
Good news is that he wants to start again, bad news is that I think he will be too big for xc,rides a bigger frame than me now.
I think he needs a nudge your way Jedi, we'll see though.
