My cross bike has developed a very irriating problem. When freewheeling at speed I get a horrible vibration which resonates through the frame. I know it's coming from the freehub/ cassette as I can replicate it if I take the wheel off and spin it by hand. The weird thing is that it doesn't always do it. It can vary when it does do it but it's usually coasting fast. I have taken the cassette off to check for owt obvious but no, nowt there. I've never had this happen on any other bike so any suggestions? There does not seem to be any play in the freehub but I suppose it could be knocking on a bit.

Some bearing in the freehub that only spins when you are freewheeling? That would be my entirely uneducated guess, don't know if it would be replaceable or whole freehub would need replacement. Or just some crap cleaning out, or never stop peddling 🙂

Yes, they are Mavic cosmos wheels. Are they known for this, then?
