So thinking of ditching my current road bike and gravel bike and getting a new road bike, or frame, that has tyre clearance for something like 35mm. I like gravel bikes but don't really go in for the 'use them like an old style MTB' sort of riding. I use mine for faster riding on canal tow paths and non gnar bridalways, or just shitty roads. So figure I could use the same bike and 2 sets of wheels. Nice set, maybe carbon, for road riding with 30mm tyres and a sturdier set with some grippier tyres for commuting and 'all road' riding....

Might build up a rigid 29er for stuff I don't need the full suss for as well.

I've seen the Giant Defy and Canyon Endurace both have 35mm clearance. Anyone give me a few more examples to check out? Or gravel bikes that are good on the road as well. I'm no 7 stone racer.....

current road and gravel bikes are PX Pro carbon evo and PX London road, but would kind of like something a bit fancier!

Giant Revolt gravel bike is good on the road.
Ali version comes with 38mm tyres as standard and the carbon version has 45mm.

Alternatively the Contend AR road bikes comes with 32mm tyres but can take up to 38mm.

I'd forgotten about the Ribble CGR. Giant Revolt looks lovely.

I run 34mm tyres on Specialized Roubaix Road Bike & 43mm tyres on Specialized Diverge Gravel Bike. I bought the Diverge 9R frameset from Bikeinn new.
Both are extremely comfortable with the Future Shock upfront & flexi seat post out back.

Eeeeeh, remember back in the day when a road bike had good tyre clearance when it could take 25mm tyres, and 32mm tyres were considered balloons that were only necessary if you were off on a world tour on unmade roads...

Jumpers for goalposts, wasn't it, eh?

Why not just buy another set of wheels for your existing gravel bike?

If the bloke want a new bike, let him get a new bike!

Spa Cycles Elan Ti (mk2 with thru axles) would be my suggestion.

Current gravel bike is a Planet X London Road which is about 7 years old, whenever the baggy seat tube saga was....

I want a nice road bike really, as I do take it to the alps/pyrenees and ride proper mountains, but I'm not bothered about it being really racey geometry wise. So something comfy but with good tyre clearance (min 35mm). Not sure if a nice GB would be good enough on the road or whether I'm over thinking it....

Cheers for the suggestions though I'll be checking them out. I can spend up to 2k on cycle 2 work scheme and could possibly get a just a frameset, as I have some decent kit on my road bike.

Exactly, don't be coming in here being all sensible. I'm surprised the first suggestions weren't 6k* super bike frames!!

*I can't afford that though....

I've just got a new Trek Domane SL6 last week it has tyre clearance for 38mm tyres. I was looking for something a bit more comfortable than my Specialized Roubaix and looked at a full-on gravel bike but have zero need for one and the Domane fitted the bill for what I was looking for. It comes stock with 32c tubeless tyres.

My Orbea Orca will fit up to 35mm. Just about to replace the stock Hutchinson 28mm that came on it and was planning to upgrade to Conti GP5000 TRs 30mm.....but holy crap I've spent less on car tyres!

Salsa Warroad will fit 700 x 35 and 650 x 47 tyres. Its tough enough for welsh gravel but not a slug on the road.

Just did something similar. Sold a PX Tempest and bought their XLS EVO in their June sale. Takes 35c (maybe even 38c) tyres which should be plenty. I know what you mean about wanting something 'nicer' than PX but the pricing for the bigger brands seems unjustified.
