A 'stupid headset' may not include the crown race, but why do you want a stupid headset?

Posted 1 month ago # Report-Post

I think I saw a man in the car park at Inners last week who had one. He was hitting the steerer tube of his fork with a hammer and shouting 'Stupid Headset' very loudly. Sometimes he would shout 'Stupid &%$@ing Headset,' is that the same thing?
He looked a bit cross so I didn't go and ask him if his had a crown race.

I got arrested on my 21st partly because the landlord thought I didn't look 18 and my mate pee'd in the sink in the ladies toilets with the door open...

Traditionally, a mechanic would slam a tube down onto the bearing surface to “set” the race in place.

Does this work?

Usually takes a good initial shove, probably as described above, followed by placing a screwdriver against it and moving it around the race as one taps it gently with a mallet.

Actually, he only says he has a new crown race ready to fit, he didn't specifically state that it came with the headset.

MADB, if you are reading this, did the crown race and headset come together or did you have o buy the new crown race seperately?

No I'm sure the orignal request was for information on Crown Rice so see here

I'd guess Crown Rice is not very good for your headset - too much starch - unless it's used as eco friendly packaging material (I've always rated pop corn as the best). My last headset came in a cardboard box, no crown rice or popcorn for that matter.

So what role does the Crown Seat play in solving this problem? I can understand we have a Crown (HRM) and the need for said Crown to sit down (Throne) whilst at the races but surely the royal backside does not sit in an ordinary seat?
