Had a puncture on way into work this morning, and it got me thinking (since this is my second in the space of a few weeks, and I hate changing tyres).... why don't they make the innertube material thicker, so that it doesn't puncture as easily?
There is most likely a very good answer to this question, but I can't think of it!
They do 🙂 Called downhill tubes.
But they aren't very light.
Edit: Or as cheap, and just as susceptible to thorn/nail punctures
there are a few graduations from skinny as up to whoa thats fat

Tubeless?
+1 tubeless with sealant, or tube with sealant, or tyre puncture strip, or puncture resistant tyres.
Take your pic
DH tubes don't make the difference you might expect IMO, they're effective for pinches but when it's sharps, things that have got through the much tougher outer tyre don't seem too fussed about getting through a bit of extra tube. (it's a wee bit like adding an extra jumper under your bulletproof vest 😉 )
Yup, doesn't really help for thorns but is heavy and rolls slower.
there is a way of ensuring you never get punctures.......walking!

What about if I was to change my tyres?
I currently have a pair of Continental Contact 700 x 32c, which came with the bike (Ridgeback Voyage) so what about swapping to the Schwalbe Marathon Plus Tour Bike Tyres? They seem much more robust, so is it worth spending £60 on a pair?
Cheers
Schwalbe Marathon Plus tyres are the answer for commuting.
I've found the standard Schwalbe Marathon to be excellent, not tried the Plus version but it seems generally well regarded 🙂
