Hi guys thinking of buying a Santacruz Nomad C 2015 its pretty much this

without the fox forks and Enve rims,

im going to be trading in my Orange Alpine 160 as they are going to give me £1500 on a trade, its guna work out about £85 a month which i thought it good plus im a VIP member so i get £214 back on credit to spend in store on top! is this bike worth getting, i just want views and answers as im an Orange guy really but i wanted something like the alpine but alot lighter and can still do what my alpine can do, let me know! throw in them comments and help me want to buy this bike more! thanks lol XD

Have the previous version and having demoed the alpine 160 for three days I would say they are at least comparable, but the nomad will be lighter, probably 2lbs (my nomad2c was 30lbs without pedals with a normal build and no dropper) The carbon c version full build must still be at least 30lbs though? So maybe saving 1lb or so over an alpine? I am sure someone will come along and says this is nonsense soon. So not a huge difference.

Dunno abouth he we weight but it'll be a shitload easier to pedal. They are expensive though (I say this as a SC carbon bike owner), I'd properly research what you'd get for your alpine in the classifieds and have a damn good look around. I reckon those canyon strives with race geometry look fantastic, just get a 0% credit card.

Ive got one, and love it, I can't really add anything that hasn't been said in all the reviews online you've no doubt read. Anything specific you want to know?

Weight wise mine is 29lbs, but that's the what is now the carbon cc frame, xx1 and enve rims, but with the heavier, but amazing, vivid air shock. (Not sure it's worth the £250 to upgrade, but it was thrown in when I got mine, worth an ask.)

If you've been a single pivot man for a while, get a demo first, as it'll feel different.

yeh this bike will have the RockShox Monarch Plus Debonair rear shock on it which is fine, theres nothing really i want to know i just wanted to ask if its worth the upgrade from the alpine 160, and can it take some hits and good on jumps etc? i wish i could afford the rims they look sweet but ill have to make do with WTB rims theey seem pretty sweet anyway!

SC owner, I'd still advise getting a demo, easy finance dosent mean it's the best bike for you. I'd demo some other bikes too. Plenty good ones out there

Well, I've never been a massive fan of single pivot bikes so I'd say yes on that front, obviously if it's worth the spend is up to you but I've ridden mine everywhere from uk trail centres and #enduros to whistler and it's been faultless. Almost bottomless travel, still climbs ok, nimble on the trails, just eggs you on to go faster and hit stuff harder!

Wouldnt bother. Expensive change for not much benefit. In my experience, VPP bikes are not as nice to jump as single pivot/faux bar. Plus, they look awful.

West coast carbon bikes dont seem very durable in Northern Pennine trails, three of my riding mates have gone back to Aluminun simpler bikes

One example was the continuous bearing breakdown on both yeti and Pivot bikes, 1 pivot bearing change in 15 months on my alp.

The boutique bike boys have gone back to ally ones on a turner Burner the other is waiting for his Nicolai, I will crack on with the Alp while they`re waiting for bearing kits.

Where are you based? North West Mountain Bikes have a demo day on Sunday 22nd Feb at the Roman Lakes in Marple. SC, Orange, Specialized etc will be there.

I'm about to find out about the Nomad - picked mine up from North West MTB yesterday. It's a Nomad C(C) - ordered before the new frames were announced so a CC with C decal - XX1, Fox forks but Hope/WTB wheels. Might go couldn't justify the upgrade to Enve's. If I go for them later or Rovals, at least I've got two sets of wheels. I demo'd one for a weekend in December and loved it, but I'm moving from a 2010 Zesty 514 (26", 140 travel).

I think there are better choices out there for that kind of money.

And that's from someone who has one. Albeit I have given it to my wife now.

Caveat is she loves it, but at 5'9" the large fits her better than it did me at 6'.

They still arn't big enough, although it's a step in the right direction & suspension is a bit funky on the new one. It was gash with the Monarch, and took a serious amount of messing about to get the CCDB to behave properly, which I put down to it's slightly odd leverage curve.

I suspect a coil shock would suit it better though.

I'm 6'1" and tried a L and XL, settled on XL. Loved the feel of VPP coming from my Zesty when I had a demo for the weekend. Hopefully will like the one I own!

My mate demoed the latest Carbon Nomad for a few days, he had an Orange Five29 and was looking at a new bike for the year to replace the Five29.

After the end of the demo he ordered a new Alpine Five instead.

He said it was good, but just felt like it took a lot of fun out of riding as it flattened the trail too much, and would have to be hitting big rocky stuff all the time for it to make sense for him.

A good question is, is the Nomad £1000 better than the latest Alpine?

Seems strange, discount one big 650b bike because it wasn't fun, and buy a big 29" that also isn't really much fun unless you ride everywhere like your hair is on fire 🙂

Still, the world would be a dull plae if we all liked the same things!

Its more that the Alpine Five is bonkers fun even if youre not blasting over really rocky rough stuff. The Nomad felt like it dulled the trail.

Makes sense to me. The nomad is just this side of a DH bike IMHO. People are razzing these about at whistler so it's little wonder it's not hugely entertaining on an average UK trail ride.

i sold a five for a blur LTc. . . it was the biggest mistake i ever made. the blur felt totally dead no matter what shock it had, i tried fox,rockshox and a coil.
It chewed through bearings and pivot pins at an alarming rate too despite being stripped and re-lubed every 2 weeks to stop the damn thing creaking.
Sold it after just 8 months to buy a canyon strive which was superior in every possible way as was the SB66, 2014 spicy and stereo 160SL tha have followed it.

After 2 years riding in all conditions, my blur LTc was just checked out by a very experienced mechanic. Bearings and pins are as good as new. It's never creaked and it rides considerably better than my mates Orange 5 (even he agrees).
The mechanic (who has won national DH, XC and enduro races) even commented on how nice it was to ride.
That said, I'm not keen on the Bronson or the Nomad (a bit too much bike), I'd go and buy a strive (as I said above).

Nomads are great bikes. Need to be pushed hard and then it becomes apparent just what is possible. I'm sure I'll get flamed for it but bikes for me have been a lot better since upgrading to multiple pivots.

And a five? He's talking about 6 inch bikes...
