I can understand how people worry about pads etc but a disc rotor is just laser cut metal so any reason not to at the price they are charging?!

I heard that superstar components stuff was made from Cephalopoda.

Not the best time to ask a question like that really!

No idea on Superstar components discs, but I believe there is a bit more to it than just laser cutting. I had some analysed, coz fancied making some, we could not find anything that hard in sheet material stainless. They are almost certainly heat treated, lazer cut, then ground.
Be good to hear how they go though?
Surfs off to Superstars website...

Edit - Oh yeah, they say all that!

I've got a 180 on the back with Formula K24s.

It's fine.

No sign of any marine molluscs eating your bike yet, rj?

(Nope, I'm STILL not sure how the octopus is linked to SSC...)

No, only a small starfish and what looks like a carp.

Banana world - I think it came from one of the threads slagging off SSC stuff which came to the point of "jumping the shark" and that became octoporn for no logical reason that I am aware of

Thank you for your attempt at explanation, TJ, but...

"jumping the shark"

...simply adds to the confusion. What does THAT mean??

Look it up on wiki - easier than me attempting to explain it

They look very similar to those for sale on MTB Direct, and they're better to deal with than SS.

Twas a Howies thread - "Have they jumped the shark", "No, but they've bummed an octopus".

Can't remember how it got associated with SSC. I think WCA and CFH were involved.

http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/JumpingTheShark

Jumping the shark is where a TV show reaches it's peak and then goes down hill. At some point it'll become obvious. e.g. the Fonz literally 'jumping the shark' in an episode of happy days.

Incidentally you'll loose your life if you click on TV Tropes. I can spend weeks on there following links. Evil overlord list is good. As is Kaaaaaaaahn. And Brian Blessed.

No experience of the SuperStar components rotors, but have had several from MTBDirect & they have been excellent. Excellent people to deal with also.

I find CaptainFlashheart's octoporn picture up there worringly alluring. Its never had that effect before. Honest.

Why are there so many folks replying to this thread with such an unimaginative "I've got 180's on my xx and they're fine" when there are so many better things to do on the internet? Like octopron?

p.s. Hi Neil.
