Just booked a three week stay in Chatel, which trails should not be missed, inspiration please, was there this year but would really like to hear about your experiences, great to get feedback on some of the Black graded trails as well, rode a few but still wary due to some of the big features.
PS. Big fan of Alpine singletrack.
Highlight of our 10 days was a sunny ride from the summit of Pointe du Chesery, along GR5 route and then down into Lindarets. High alpine track, rocks, views, dust and endless hairpins and whoops down again
Ace.
Matt - do you mean Point de Mosette? Not sure how you ride from Chesery without a good push up to start ๐
Ride over the back of Mosette, taking in the Swiss national. Down to Les Crosets, pratting around on the Mauchausen and back.
Off piste from Les Gets around Mont Chery via Mont Caly (the circuit de Mont Chery is still closed and not looking like its going to reopen anytime soon), col d'Encrenaz and climb to the cold de la basse for a gem of a decent that few get to do. Les Pauis, Bois Noirs and down to essert rommand, return to Chatel via Supermorzine/Zore and Chaux Fleurie
Drum & Bass in Champery is still one of my favourite trails.
You're right Stoner - Mossette is correct I think. That's the one with lift on?
IS that near Shatners bassoon.
Come on now what is your fave, you know this shit.
PS. Hob Nob
Why is Haute Tension graded double black?
All the above are really good, with Les Bois Noir being especially fine. I always thoroughly enjoy the Mossette/ Lac Vert/ Refuge de Cheserey ride. The Chapelle de Janquicourt is good value, esp. if you take the rooty trail from opposite the chapel door- loads of rooty steppy goodness without the worries of the La Bourgoeoise.
Best of the lot though must surely be the Col de Cou, clockwise. You don't mind uphill do you?
Quite partial to a spot of climbing, have to admit the ease of uplift makes everything incredibly user friendly though.
Didn't do the Col de cou last time definitely on this trip, is it better with or without the Arete ta.
PS. Ambrose isn't the classic way towards Champery.
Re; Arete du Berrois- it's a hard call tbh. By the time you have climbed all that way it seems a shame not to finish. The arete is short but fun though.
Bourgeouisie (sp?) but but but rather than turn left when you reach the road to climb and descend down to Samoens, carry on down for 50m or so then head right and descend down to Verchaix (Morillon) instead.
Col de la Basse, although you could barely see anything the day I rode it.
Not sure why Haute Tension is graded the way it is - it's tight and tricky, and not easy to ride fast, but nothing scary.
Thanks for the input guys, Matt yes that is a lovely descent dwn to Lindarets.

Absolute corker of a trail is that!

Best have been mentioned above I think, especially the trail mentioned by stoner, lower etc, but I'd add in:
above Chatel, take the antiquated Morclan chairlift then head to Mouet, on to lake Arvouin, then the fantastic downhill to la Chapelle d'Abondance.
Oh yeah vinnyeh did that last time, really enjoyed with my teenage son, most excellent.

I've just come here to say +1 to this. The day we did it this year started off okay then one of the lads broke his wrist on the WC course into Champery. I had to ride back to Pre La Joux to get the van. It started raining as we went up in the telecabine which then turned everything into slop with no grip. Still bloody good fun though especially along the VTT route past the Lac Vert and then we pushed up to Rochasson lift instead of dropping into Lindarets. On a good day we would have went the other way but it was grim.
Love the GR5 from Mossettes back to Linderats, then take the chair lift up the other side of the valley and follow the rooty VTT/off piste trails back into end of Morzine, then follow the river back.
Never taken that black option under the Chatel chair lift into Linderats off the GR5 because it's black, instead going down the fire road. Looking on you tube it doesn't actually look too bad with a few steep corners in places?

It's a much more interesting route than 'puncture alley'.
Its just a shame the trail (like a lot of the PDS) under the Chaux Fleuire is hammered to bits.

As above, it probably was a fun trail at one point, but it was built so badly the rain/snowmelt had washed away a massive channel through sections & the braking bumps were monsterous, even by Morzine's standards (actual, axle deep at points).
As always, maintenance is questionable at best.
Go see Jo at Ridability.
He guided us for an epic day into Switzerland on a singletrack ridge descent that went on and on and on and on.
A few rock gardens on the black option (Taboggan) into Lindarets only rode it once, favourite trail in that bowl was the red- dans le foret, great entry rock slab, some nice technical features interesting all the way down.

If this is the trail I think it is, it's been reopened after work was done on it this year.
