Am meeting the family up at Glenfinnan tomorrow and wondered about riding up the marked 4wd on the E side of Loch Shiel. Anyone been up and can advise if suitable for a gravel bike or MTB only

I am pretty sure there is now a bridge that connects the track to glenfinnan where the track turns east so you don't have to go 3 miles east

edit - its on the 1:25000 I have but not the 1: 50000

Yep, there is now a footbridge. It's marked on the OS maps.

From memory - second day of our coast to coast - it's a big pull up to the summit (on a SS !!) on tarmac, but then double track and no issues at all that I recall. Really nice track.

Only downer was hitting the Mallaig road and roadie-ing it along to Corpach / Banavie.

It'll be great on a gravel bike. I did a there & back from Glenfinnan years ago.

Did it north to south. No pinemartins. Lots of hurty rain. Gravel bike would be made for it…

It's my road, it's not very exciting.

It's an offroad superhighway logging road. Not particularly inspiring but a gravel bike will be perfect. Good views up and down the loch in places, stunning if you get good weather, particularly as you approach Glenfinnan. Read the insect repellent thread. Clegs, ticks & midges in abundance.
