I'm thinking of trying narrower tyres on my 27.5+ bike because I’m not happy with the vague front end.

I’m currently running 2.8” Nobby Nic front and rear on a 36mm rim. What’s the narrowest tyre that’s suitable for that rim?

No idea, but I put some skinny 26" 2.35 DHF/DHRs on some 41mm internal rims and didn't die. Most things will work, they just might not be ideal 😆

What about whacking some more air in as a free/easy fix?

I have 32mm internal rims and 2.35 tyres, they do look quite square, but ride fine.

I've got an ardent 2.4 on a 40mm rim on the back if my bike it's fine

A lot of modern tyres are designed for wider rims anyway, so you should be fine. I think the Maxxis WT tyres are designed around 30-35mm rims

Squarer tyres have more drag in a straight line but as long as the tread isn't too deformed should grip well in corners (round tyres don't grip well in soft corners).

Why not? The patch of tyre in contact with the ground is at the same pressure over all of the ground, and conforming to it. It's not as if a squarer tyre digs in more .
