[Closed] Planet X Front Mech Roller - which way round should the sleeve go? Doh!

If the larger or head of the sleeve rests on the frame threads, the pulley is stuck.

If the smaller part of the sleeve rests on the frame, it works but most bike manufacturers have it fitted in the way I described above?

I have fitted it this way:

I've fitted loads of these having built bikes for PX for 2 1/2 years. You need to get a washer to sit on the frame side of the roller and put the spacer with the wider end in contact with the head of the bolt. Also a good trick is to bin the cover as it just fills with crap from the back wheel and stops the pulley rotating. The very best solution is to use a top pull front mech, shimano do a cross one for double chainring which works on 10 or 11 speed. The pulley will stop working unless you lube it frequently as it's right in the firing line.

I used a top-pull CX front mech to avoid using that pulley thing.

Thanks for tech advice Pistonbroke & Co..

I was transferring some parts over from my other bike and keeping things cheap.

I'll finish the build and see how much the old man rides and if he likes it then a new front mech will be on the shopping list.

He doesn't ride in mud so I'll tell him to junk the cover and use a dry lube.

Will see if the 105 mech I have somewhere is a top pull.

Shimano SD CX -70 is the one you want, assuming they're still available.

Thanks, just googling that mech now.

Think I may need a different crank as I'm attempting to use an old GXP road crank 10spd but the chainline
is not so great with a 135mm rear axel.

Ok I ditched the roller for a CX70 top pull.

The spring is lighter and has made shifting brilliant!

Thanks Pistonbroke and Markend.
