[Closed] Plain gauge spokes on non brake side?

Just bought a cheapish set of 'custom built' wheels. XT hubs/symmetrical rims/2.0_1.8_2.0 spokes.

Three sets of spokes are the double butted butted mentioned but one is plain gauge 2.0mm.

In this case it is the front wheel, non-brake side.

I would have expected it to be the brake side as the steeper bracing angle provides less lateral support; I thought that would better balance lateral flex of the rim...

I am happy to be corrected and hopefully it's not a mistake by the wheel builder.

Mistake or not, they've not sold you the thing advertised. I bet they were short on spokes and thought you wouldn't notice (most people wouldn't).

I'm not expert but I thought butting was mainly about reducing weight and possibly introducing some (desirable) elasticity. PG are cheaper.

So IMO is it a huge deal? Not really, but I'd be annoyed that someone thought they could cut a corner and not mention it.

Yeah, it's just weight in the grand scheme of things, front wheel non brake side is the one that'll see less forces, same with rear gear side, but the torque of the spokes will be more of the issue.

I wouldn't worry too much, only issue i'd have is as they're symmetrical rims, did they use the right length, but that's easy to spot though any exposed threads on the spokes.

I have it in the back of my mind that dB spokes were better at handling the stress than pg spokes, so pg on the non brake side of front wheel there's no drama.

Spokes on both sides of the wheel are taking braking loads, but it's more impacts from riding that will do damage.

It wouldn't bother me beyond being out of spec, depending on what I'd paid I WBA doing much about it beyond a bit of £ back.
