Looking for a place to practice jumps/doubles/tabletops around manchester. I am aware of Lee quarry etc but I don't get access to a car until after 7. anything within the M60 (away from theiving teenagers)?

thanks

There is what looks to be a set of jumps on the waste ground between the chill factor and the M60, yet to have a look myself. But I'm also after a decent set of jump trails in Manc.

In my first year at Uni in Leeds I lived 10 mins ride from the Adel trails which were freaking awesome. Probably why I averaged ~55% in my first year!

There's Farmer John's place in Marple Bridge, it's about a mile up a (fairly big) hill from the train station at Marple. There are some pretty big BMX jumps just next to the station actually...

There are probably loads of little local jumps spots around, finding them is another matter

I heard a few mates talk about it. not seen it myself. if there is some smaller stuff i might be inclined to visit although from where I am (N. manc) its as broad as long to go there over Lee Quarry (35-40 mins)

those dirt jumps by the trafford centre are pretty big:

there's a bmx track in Heywood, near the cricket club at Queens park. There's also one in WIthington I think

Farmer John's is a privte DH course in Marple Bridge, there's some smaller stuff there but there's also some gert big stuff. They have a race weekender in September or so where you can go and watch, they have a "floodlit" short track DH on the Saturday night and a longer course race on Sunday.

As for location, there will be something closer to you, ask the Mad Dads - Mr Sparkle, Harry The Spider et al. It would probalby have helped to say North Manchester in the thread title, they'd have had a look then

Private suggests membership? Is this the case?

yes, not sure on the exact details but IIRC you pay about a tenner a year and do some repair / building work as part of your "fees"

Update:

Checked the Chill Factor jumps out on Saturday. The main three pack is indeed quite big - not to be trifled with. Theres a mini three pack on the left that are not great for learning on really - too small, no real lip/transition to speak of and the final hip landing is shot.

Theres another three pack on the right, they're sort of a hybrid tabletop - pallets etc stuffed in the middle. Too big to learn on if you have little to no experience.

And to top it off, both the smaller sets are surrounded by nettles, so if you stack it like I did, you're in for a very annoying night.

B*****d nettles.

In which case I'l mention that Brabyn's park in Marple has TWO sets - there's the "official" track down near the river, which is not great but has some smaller jumps (pic of Mrs NBT to be posted later when Iget chance), and some MASSIVE ones just above the station - seriously big and steep, from which I deduce that they're built for BMXs

Easy doubles = Bruntwood BMX track Cheadle. used to be a bunch of dirt jumps built around the 'official' track too, I haven't been there for quite a while though (like at least 6 years).

We built a bunch of dirt jumps near Jacksons Bridge (by the mersey near Chorlton), but that was ten years ago - I don't know if they've been maintained since.

As a semi-interesting side note, I did my first ever mountain bike race at Brabyns Park, It was 1990, I was 13 and I came last 😆

the "official" track, although this looks like a decidedly home made jump into the berm...
