Only built in ten days or so ago, but am quite pleased; has since had a BBG bash fitted - and am awaiting arrival of an N-Gear Jump Stop. Have been to Glentress on it a few times and had so, so much fun - chain has come off once or twice, but the bash and Jump Stop should help stop that. The lightest bike I've ever built at 24lbs, and that's with a heavyish wheelset and 2.35" tyres.

My 456, as was in March '06. I ran it as a 1x9 (with an N-Gear Jump Stop) for about 18 months, when I was mostly riding in an area where there were no big hills and the extra clearance was essential when using 2.3" Timberwolfs throughout the winter :o)
That ride at Nant yr Arian (pictured) was hard on 1x9!

No bashring, jumpstop, chain device, front mech etc..

Just an unramped (thorn 34T from SJS cycles) chainring. Its fat enough not to need narrow chainring bolts or spacers too. I tried it on the outside position intially because it looked nice, but the chain fell off quite easily. In the middle position its not dropped the chain once

I'm not sure why the fork looks bent in this picture though

Tried it without chainguide and chain came off frequently over the bumpy stuff, its fine now though.

That ride at Nant yr Arian (pictured) was hard on 1x9!

I didn't stray out of the middle ring when we went last week. I thought it quite easy. I have been forcing myself to use the middle ring only for a while now, not really a problem on Cannock Chase!!!.

The day I did that ride it was blowing a gale. I was nearly blown off the trail several times. I wasn't at "peak fitness" then either! ;o)

My 1x9 has just become a 1x1 due to me getting immensely annoyed. I'll be going round nant tomorrow morning so should be interesting to see if I can get up the ole leg burner!

I didn't stray out of the middle ring when we went last week.

I tried an enthusiastic approach to leg burner too, but by the crossroads, my legs and lungs were ready to explode. The second time I just dropped my head and spun a low gear and until I arrived!

Singlespeeding it sounds tough. best of luck!

Using Jump stop and bash guard, rarely miss the other gears and love a silent drivetrain.

as James said, the Thorn unramped rings are great, i have mine in the middle as well and it has been perfect. It's only a commuter but potholes, curbs, the odd step never upsets it. It is a 42T though...

You wish! Nah... you're not her type; she much prefers men that are capable of loving others besides themselves!
