I have an issue with my freeview box which is confusing me. Some of the channels get a really good signal and some dont. I can see the main transmitter in Fife and have the arial pointing straight at it. for example Dave on 19 is full strength but Dave ja view on 25 is really weak so cuts out. Are some channels not from the same transmitter? There is another Transmitter on blackford hill that is not direct line of sight - the castle gets in the way and its about 180 degrees away - will this second transmitter be transmitting the channels I cannot get good reception for?
I get good reception on all the analogue signals including channel five.
anyone any ideas?
They call it f3ckin progress you wait until there's actually something you want to what and the picture goes all to cock.
Same transmitter, but channels are bundled together in groups called multiplexes, which I think are on different frequencies. Your local transmitter is probably only able to broadcast certain frequencies at reduced power. Apparently when the analog signal is turned off there will be much more available bandwidth so they won't need to broadcast on these unsuitable frequencies.
That's what my electronic engineer friend told me anyway ๐
On some freeview boxes you can determine which transmitter you are receiving from by looking at the the channel properties in the setup menu.
That might tell you whether they're from the same transmitter or not.
If they're from the same transmitter then it's probably down to individual channel transmission level.
Ta porterclough / jova- makes some sort of sense I suppose. I might try the other transmitter.
The transmitter I can see is 20 miles or so away - the one I can't is only 4 miles away
i don't think there is a transmitter on blackford hill
well I just poited the arial at the red light on top of what I think is blackford hill and I am now getting a better signal ๐
Google tells me there is one on Blackhill but its not the usual one for edinburgh which is the fife one - craigkelly.
Edit - thats black Hill near glasgow not Blackford hill Edinburgh ๐
<Y arial is now pointing south east but works better.
*confuzzled*
In my previous house, our high-gain antenna was in the loft.
Strangely, we got a better reception pointing at the big hill right out the back of the house rather than the direction most other people's antenna pointed at. So we just put up with Devon & Cornwall's news rather than where we lived!
I guess I am getting the Glasgow signal from Black hill nr Glasgow. Ho hum
TJ - We are using blackhill (from Linlithgow) despite on the map having better line of sight to fife! However we find that we get the opposite problem good Dave Ja Vue but bad Dave. Although sometimes Dave is good.
I had similar problems, get someone round to replace your coaxial cable from the aerial, make sure it's one complete run and pay a professional to do it.
Worked for me, only when the weather is really bad I get a few channels that don't work.
Zigggy - get someone in to do it? Its a total DIY installation - I just went up on the roof to realign it ๐ new high quality co ax. installed by me.
