I'm off on a trip to Morzine and Les Gets this summer, so, to cheer me up and get me all excited, anyone got any photos or videos they can post to show me what it's going to be like and what I can expect, or links to albums if you've got a lot of photos, nice sunny one's please 😀
Oh, and if you have any 'must do' routes let me know ... some good long descending xc type routes would be good
No pics, I'm afraid, but there's loads of long xc descents. you'll love it. If you've got a car it's worth heading over to Samoens for a day. It's quite close and the riding makes a nice change.

Personally I'd steer clear of Les Gets - just seems to be a source of constant lift queues. I'd go up past avoriaz to chatel and the swiss bit has some epic singletrack.

The day after I shot the video I took my nine-year-old son down the same trail on his Carrera hardtail. I was expecting him to struggle a bit, but he almost pwned me! It won't happen again - I've set his brakes so the pads rub against the rear disc 😀

I'm heading back to morzine this summer to flowmtb budget chalet, been there the last two years only riding DH. Dunno whether to take my marin 140 as well this time and find some more "trail assisted riding" rather than lift up and shortest DH route back down.
How easy is it to find some of the delicious looking singletracks i've seen? eg. flowmtbguy's first video?

That hydration pack hose is too annoying...
There is a good XC route that leads from Avoriaz - Col de la Joux Verte round the side of the mountain down into Morzine, and over in Les Gets from the Chavannes lift there is another route (with some climbing) to the top of La Rosta with a great view of Mont Blanc then back down into Les Gets.
Both routes are marked on the site map.
I want to get back this year on my new 150mm with a decent set of brakes rather than a 100mm XC bike....

It's above a place called Barme, near Champery. It's not straightforward to get to, but is worth it. I think it may be cheeky now though.
The ridge is a path from the 'Col De Cou' to Barme. This is how you get to it from the Swiss side:

From the top you can drop down to the 'Mines D'Or' on the French side or do the ridge down to Barme:

Not sure about any of it being cheeky. Don't think the Swiss differentiate between 'bridleways' and 'footpaths'. The local 'Chausettes Rouges' had a bit of a moan at us when we rode it although a local guide had recommended we try it...
I'd heard that the bit of ridge onwards from the barns at point 1816, on the col on the Arete de Berrois (just below the cross) was now classed as 'cheeky'. The section as far as there is allowed though. So Once at the barns, drop down into that beautiful valley, lunch at Balme. Then screaming brakes down to Champerey, via La Braye.
Glad someone else asked for these gave me the kick i needed to get booked up going with riders retreat 23rd july cant wait after seeing all these

Lift queues weren't that bad in Les Gets when we were there in 2009 BTW.
Virtually nobody using the Mont Chery lift, and the track was in good condition. Only short waits on the Chavannes.
Looking forward to riding the gulley run again more than anything else this summer.

In the 8 years I've been going I've barely had an issue with queueing on the lifts.
A medley of a very muddy week.
I've been up to Col de Cou from Morzine side then down to Champery from there, but apart from some singeltrack at the top{which meant crossing some very slippery, dodgy leftover snow in the shade} it was double fire roads all the way to Champery.
Which way from the top is it to the Ridge trail then? Roughly I mean, and if it's signed, which direction? Was an all morning slog up to Col de Cou from Mozrine mind...

@ akira- whereabouts is the boards section you show on your clip from 1:15 onwards? It looks like fun, is it on a super gnarly hard DH run?
@Ambrose, sorry no idea, was with a guide and we went up some chairlifts in the fog and then down through some muddy rainy bits.
Was some very nice steep stuff but it was all more off the beaten track than on a particularly main bit.

@Ambrose If remember rightly from trip out there with akira you head right before the start of the 4x in to les gets.
When you hit the road there is a trail (from what I remember signed) heading in to the trees on your left.
That is really vague and only limited use but is all my slightly jaded memory can recall.

That trail in the first video is up above St Jean d'Aulps - you can either get the cable car on a Wednesday or Sunday, or ride up from Graydon. It's imaginatively named the Joranloup Singletrack.
With that information and an IGN map, you should be able to find it 🙂
My flat to the top (via the lift) and back down the trail to my flat is a 45 minute round trip - I like that!
I was lucky enough to meet up with two Morzine regulars who showed me loads of stuff. 10 brilliant days and I was on a hardtail, one great trail was out of Les Gets on the opposite side to the big down hill, along a rocky ridge and down a bit to a little bar. Then a ride around the hill.

Yep - that 'local loop' is easily doable during a ride from flow HQ - plus there's plenty of other singletrack to ride if you know where you're going
