Having just upgraded to a Xperia Arc S, I have a spare Xperia mini I have set up on a pay as you go O2 contract that I take out cycling in case of emergencies.

I have recently been looking into get a gps bike computer, such as the Edge 500, for use on my road bike to record distance, speed, ascent, calories etc.

Would my phone, loaded with Endomondo, be fine for this? I would need some way of mounting it to my stem or handlebars, and probably a waterproof casing too.

I have an ARC (same phone basically) and I use my tracks quite happily, although I've got endomondo pro, I've not really had a chance to play with it properly as yet.
In short it should be fine. The GPS seems pretty accurate when overlaid on OS maps.

I won't be using the Arc, I'll be using the Mini.

Does the gps function cost much on pay-as-you-go contracts?

GPS itself doesnt cost anything, its the data that costs (I know on my tracks it still works with the data turned off)
