May well have seen you guys 'n' gal, and said Hello!, on Saturday - bunch of us we're stopped in the trees, lunching and digging out camera gear as you rode up a singletrack climb that ended right at Bicknoller Post?
Two ladies in the group, 2 x singlespeed mentalists and a selection of other nice folk...?

Marsdenman, yup twas us as Pete said, i saw you admiring my ss with a lustful gaze and feeling of being over geared..;-) hope your ride was as good as ours.

Now then ladies, gents and old duffers of the weekend, WOW!

After a time off the bike i a few turns of the pedals reminded me wy i ride and usually ride sooo much. The conditions were just fantastic, but the weekend would of been nothing without the company over the weekend...

I've not had sooo much fun riding in ages, from saturday morning till sunday when we all departed there was so much laughter inducing banter.

Alot of this was provided by the odd couple, brothers at arms, the twins, Anna's bitchs.....Andy and Oldfart, how i laughed when a saw them both racing each other on the last bit of beacon hill, big grins on there faces, legs spinning....would never of known they had a collective age worthy of a letter from the Queen...

Thanks to Knottie for dragging my arse out onto the bike and testing my legs, heart and lungs, 6 weeks is a long time without exercise and i felt it.

Great to meet new peeps and of course old faces and to be chased/tested down MY trails. They're mine dammit!!! YOU SHALL NOT PASS...............

Great to see Kirstie find her climbing legs on sunday day two on the Q's can often be the harder day of weekend here.

Queenie, Fanks for the shortfood stuff and tolerating an annoying me 😉

And to Peter.....awesomeness.....the candle thing will stick in my mind for quite a while. I do hope this B'day will be one to remember, it's a weekend i'll not forget.

Thanks all.

Temps dropped alot now but i feel ill be grabbing a little lunch then going out for a ride whilst the legs are still fresh..

Aye a great weekend that was and great company as well! Good to catch up with everyone, some not seen for a while and some new faces as well. Perfect conditionas, easily one of the best weekends of the year!

Listen here you lot; I wont hear a bad word said about my little brother, old fart. He might be a bit of a bu55er, oh hang on he IS a an old bu55er!

Oh an steer clear of the the Quantocks everyone. Nothing of interest. Pretty dull really. Move along now.

i saw you admiring my ss with a lustful gaze and feeling of being over geared..;-)

LOL - having just dropped down that track (and, being so unfit, still sweating like a big lad at a disco..) i was thinking more along the lines of 'heck, hope his knees don't pop....' 😉 - fair play to both ss'ers though, that's for sure

hope your ride was as good as ours
- great weekend thanks, was on the Seb Rogers course so when you saw us it was lunch break followed by photo shoot.... riding was good, shows I've a lot to do with my fitness levels though 😳 - Still both full days out ended with the decent down the hill exactly opposite where you'll have hit the top 😀 😀 Goes without saying that you lot had a good weekend....!

I really cannot believe how blessed you Q's locals are - i opened the OS map at the B&B on Friday and could not see contour lines as they're all obscured by the green ink of bridleways...... talk about green with envy.

Anyhow - good to meet you all - if only in passing....

oh -

would never of known they had a collective age worthy of a letter from the Queen
- speaking of which - who was that out front - Scott Scale i think - as you went past? Fresh as a daisy, spinning along nicely, only served to add to my feelings of lardyness......

Regards

Chris

Out front was John, in a couple weeks the geared bike will go away as he rides a ridged SS when the clocks change, he bailed early as he had a 15 mile fell race on Exmoor to do on Sunday.

Were you lot fannying about near a scree slope on Sunday afternoon, We charged through a stream crossing with a load of abandoned bike nearby.....

All was that Also saturday, the weekends a big long blur....

If you like the Q's then book another weekend and come play with us locals, without the faffing of cameras and exaggerated posses..

Andy.....We missed you for the final boringly flat and dull straight non descent back the car park, after a big long non slog up one of those easy climbs.

now i feel really, really lardy....

We charged through a stream crossing with a load of abandoned bike nearby.....

nope, don't think that was us - where we abandoned bikes via a stream it was 'cos we were shooting it - you'd have been blinded by flash as you went by if it were us....

And yes, would love to take up the offer of a weekends riding some time - it really is an amazing spot.... just so long as you don't mind my exaggerated [s]posses[/s] breathing..

Now, off to find out what the score is with my crank set - all went pete tong first thing on sunday - turns out had lost bolts x2 off the granny ring - it's now oval and I think the threads may have sheared = new crankset....
and, before you say it - I won't be going singlespeed 😉 ..... speaking of which - which was you Sharki - On-One or Genesis?

Ooooop! Borked bike is not good.
- nope, not at all, had had one of those annoying 'cannot be traced' noises going on for a while when riding, had not been able to track it down.... 😕
what's worse than the financial impact though is the embarrassment of a major mechanical in front of two respected bike industry types and the others in the group.... 😳

only thought now is 'which cranks' as Shimano are taking a hit elsewhere on the forum!

Ref your bike - hats were duly doffed as your's appeared to be a conversion of a 'geared' frame!

I've been riding ss for around a year now, it just like riding a bike.

I can offer no advice on cranks, mine are heavy Truvativ Five D's beasted onto a square taper BB, It works and at many points over the weekend i realised my bike was not making any noises, now this worries me...

I may advice SSC cranks as these have a toolless fitting design, with is cool.

Just had a proper read through the thread, which made me giggle I'll admit 🙂
Both of us agreed on the way home yesterday it was one of the best riding weekends we'd been on, if not THE best. The group was the right size, the trails were STUNNING, the banter and p..s taking constant. And of course there was cake. Perfik!

A few more pics if I may....

Yeah that's what we thought. No we didn't see him, but judging by the plate and the car we assumed he had a very, VERY small appendage!
😀

It's just too confusing if you ask me, PP.

You'll have to let me know, when I get the new car, when you do something a bit further north. I have a bit more flexibility in hols now. And having someone slower and fatter to tag along makes the whole group look good. 😀

A phobia of candles can only be understood after witnessing such barbaric assaults with said waxy items.
Reducing a grown man to tears with continued and relentless attacks left me fearful myself.

reminded me of the scene in LOTR, were Gimli was trying to blow off the undead.

No that's not some twisted necrophilia pron version....

Quantocks are south..... Somerset!

We WILL be doing the Lakes next year though, maybe you should invite everybody up for a Peaks ride as well. You know it fairly well. I fancy Cut Gate myself

Whenever I try to sort something out no-one ever comes. I don't know why tbh.

Plus if everyone comes to the peaks there's just going to be moaning about it being "dangerous"!!!! (remember the wet slate in the Lakes???? 😉

Every single route I always do in the Peaks ends up going down "The Beast" so I can look good for 20 seconds, LOL....

Rob, all the new names came about this weekend.

PeteImpretza (Who actually drives a Vectra) asked of Sharki "Is he on crack?" as he kept flying up and down and all around on his SS. Annabanana managed to reduce me to a gibbering wreck in the pub afterwards by repeatedly making me blow out birthday candles, and various old people looked alike, and had spare time and chips on their shoulders. Gary really is a Social Hand Grenade. Whoever is anywhere near him, well, they better watch out.
😉

You had to be there really. It was actually funny. At the time....... 😉

Rob, now we had the (dubious? 😉 ) benefit of local guides, but having ridden in various places up and down the UK as you know, I have to say the quality and sheer quantitiy of trails there is second to none. It's similar to other places, yet somehow different to them all as well. Nobody would be disappointed after riding there, I'm confident of that. 🙂

Amusingly one of our group commented that you guys had a good cross selection of standard STW bikes.

what's worse than the financial impact though is the embarrassment of a major mechanical in front of two respected bike industry types and the others in the group....

I wouldn't worry about it, these things happen!
