I cant understand why some of you moan. If you dont like the price, dont buy it.
If you dont like others making a profit, does that mean you give stuff away at cost ? If you do thats because it makes you feel good. Others will find profit makses them feel good. One mans fair price will be anothers bargin / rip off. Get over it and shop harder for a bargin.
I have sold Wheels to daffy.....Personaly i couldnt care less what he does with them. HE PAID ME WHAT I WANTED FOR THEM , so im happy.
WTF is the problem with you people on here.. the guy has the right to sell wheels or kit he doesnt use for whatever price he can get...
If you dont like the price ----dont buy it..DOOOOOOOOHHHHH !
I dont think hes breakin any rules or laws.......(send for the lawyers and hangman quick)
Think about it folks........LIFE IS A BITCH.....SOUR GRAPES
For the record
INSPECTOR ANDYWILSON______ the wheels he has on ebay are not the ones he bought from me...mines was the xc rims not the am ones.....
FOR THE MODS:
How about a cap on the number of classified listings in a year?
Something like 20 a year would be HEAPS for normal folk.
I think the idea of a community moving bits from one user to the next should be supported. STW classifieds should not be for prolific sellers to buy cheap and sell on.
Christ, now I'm confused
Vadar - you're saying they're NOT your wheels ?
I don't care that much what anyone does TBH but it does affect what I buy. I also tend to reply to wanted ads differently depending who's asking.
I'd buy on trust without a second thought from some members here but I'm more wary with people that, to me, seem to be "professional" sellers (or maybe not very careful with their stuff 😉 )
I also used to keep a little list of people that were good/not so good to deal with but funnily the "bad" ones keep changing their names

Right now scardypants I can't afford the "Hit" I'm a student who was living offof the interest on my savings. I can't afford to do that now, hence selling stuff, Including the Ti456, the Kona A, ALL my spare wheels, the Alfine, the Satmap etc etc.

Wow, a student living off the interest off their savings, I feel for you Daffy, I really do.
I reckon I will be in my deathbed before my savings pay for my wellbeing, but that's just the jealousy talking.
And to think the mods say the classifieds are good as they are.

INSPECTOR ANDYWILSON
smooth.
Assuming the fusion of our usernames is intentional, I refer you to my previous post: imho Daffy seems to just swap parts around like I do with records. Andyhilton could have done with a search of the 'old' forum and seen what a switch-tastic bike fiddler Daffy is before he got all conspiracy'd up. And its a shame Daffy thought people would be quick to judge him for selling them again on here for what he paid for them. Actually he is probably right. Perhaps he would have got a few irate questions, and this debate would be happen all over his classifieds thread instead. But I'm sure the wheels would have sold (i mean they are a bargain) and he would have explained himself as he has done here.
I am interested in the other folk on here that are doubtless lurking and not contributing to this discussion as they just don't have the sort of explanations that you and Daffy have provided. Or they are just too busy hitting refresh on the classifieds. 😉
It's a tricky one this, I've sold plenty of stuff through the classifieds over the years and have always treated it as a kind of community resource, often selling stuff for less than it might have made on eBay but it felt good to help out fellow STWers. On occasion the favour has been returned - which is nice.
I have to confess I was a bit dissapointed that Daffy wouldn't sell me his ti 456, I emailed him an offer which would have seen a clear profit on the £550 he apparently paid for the frame ( what Daffy paid ). But he just left me hanging while he went off looking for better offers. Still what rankled was the lack of communication, not the fact that he was looking for the best price. IMHO Daffy is perfectly entitled to sell stuff for whatever price he wants.
So Daffy how is the downgrading going? I thought you just bought LardLover's pimped up IF?
Not good really, people offer unused items here cheaply to help people out.
Cant say I'm surprised though.
julian /fusion/Andy
I dont think they are my wheels as i said before.
I dont really care .I just thought id get my say in as it was my add up in the first post..and i like button bashin vbhjbvwrjngjas.vas,bvekfv;kvfmbv.
The stw is a place where you should be able to trust people you buy from and sell kit to.Lets face it we all lose money when we sell it second hand.
More to the point DAFFY has never sold something and not sent the item .
Plenty on here would rip you of in a minute (and have) on the classifieds.
To finish off..............w;mkqdn

wait a sec why have i been dragged into the thread? 😐
vadar:Plenty on here would rip you of in a minute (and have) on the classifieds.
I dunno about that.
who's daffy? by the looks of it hes not popular
Taka, so it would seem, Especially with the bitter an twisted starting to post...which leads me to:
No, My downgrading is not going well, It's not nice to have to sell all your stuff to pay rent.
So far, 3 wheelsets have been sold, that leaves 3 pairs for 5 bikes, you do the math! My Satmap has gone. Most of my spares will be up in a week or so. All of my telescope stuff is for sale:

http://www.astrobuysell.com/uk/propview.php?view=22912
If the Ti456 sells for it's full price then I'll be £350 up by the time I pay for it's replacement, which is a months rent!
I've already offered the Kona for sale and the Airborne May be next if I cna get a deal on a replacement commuter.
That would leave the Mojo and the Hardtail.
Happy now?!
Times are tough when you have to sell your Takahashi FSQ 106N with Denkmeir 2" dielectric 2* and 0.5* diagonal*
*Whatever that is 😉
There are people on ebay who buy and sell i suppose anywhere theres a chance for money it will happen, TBH given the large size of this forum its never going to have true community spirit... I am grateful to those who are kind when considering their sales prices, its just seems a little at odds, that we have a forum where people will offer help and advic no end but then deprive you of something you might need for the sake of a Fiver....
I just want to say thanks to jonjones13 for selling me his TiMax 29er - best bike I have ever ridden although a man offered me $5500 for it yesterday but i felt that selling it to him would not be in the spirit of STW (tm) so declined.....please accept my apologies for thinking about it. I would have made a small profit had I goen ahead but the shame made me stop.
We all know we can get more money by selling on Ebay. If you choose to sell on here, you will be doing so in the knowledge that its a quick, simple sale. Plus you know what you will be getting.
I have just sold some Hope XC hubs and a set of Revelations on Ebay and am very happy with what I got for them. i did post feelers here seeing if anyone was interested but nobody replied so Ebay it was.
Before you throw another rope over the branch, I bought the hubs 3 years ago from Merlin and the Revs from Winstanleys 2 years ago.
If you sell items to a buyer, surely the buyer can do whatever they want with said parts, polish them, fit them, wreck them, sell them. Its not yours anymore, why the concern.
Summary - C***s trick.
Daffy, how much kit do you buy and sell in a year? I tend to go through a fair few frames (3 approx) and a couple of forks but you seem to go through complete really bling builds?!!! 😯
Are you really a Chinese money-launderer called Po Ting?
Not everyone sells something for a profit on here. There are a fair few people who will help others out and not advertise what they have done. I wont name names but Im still waiting on someones UK address so I can send him a couple of innertubes and a couple of tyres as a thank you.
There all comin out the woodwork now...
No More posts from me here.....
move along ,,nothing too see...
I didnt read the above posts before posting mine above. Sorry, I dont mean mine as any sort of attack fella- just abit of leg-pulling. After all you do rinse alot of kit in a year!!!! 😀
So far, 3 wheelsets have been sold, that leaves 3 pairs for 5 bikes, you do the math! My Satmap has gone.
And they say that students have too much money these days! Life is tough for you eh? 😛
Over the past few years I've bought & sold a few bits on here. Quite what happens to it when its left my hands I don't care. As long as I get a decent & fair price, if someone wants to go to the trouble of ebaying it onwards then that's up to them.
In the process I've up-specced my Enduro with some nice top-drawer kit & I could never have paid new prices for the stuff.
Last year I posted an ad for a pair of Skyway Tuff wheels. A kind chap off here sent me a pair for free (I paid the postage). They were in a bit of a state, but I've re-built & re-sprayed them for the kids trailer. Looking on Ebay decent "old-skool" Skyway's are now fetching a packet. If I was to pass them on I'd offer the chap who sent them me half the proceeds as I reckon that's fair.
Daffy dont even bother yourself with this thread anymore mate they all need to a grip!
you dont need to explain anything to em.
whats so bad about making profits you could end up like hbos or rbs if you loose out
Jeez this pisses me off!! Why can people not buy and sell what they want. All this super sleuth shit is pathetic. Big wow you did not get a frame at a bargain price, who else other than us gullible MTBers would spunk £500+ on some pipes welded together!!
I think the point is some people sell at a discount (compared to ebay) due to a feeling of community and hence feel a bit cheated/deceived when traders buy everything up and sell on for a profit, thus depriving people who could really benefit from cheap bits the handing hand.
If someone is using the classified for trade, then surely they should be paying for it, as last time I checked STW isn't a charity to help out people who want to make a few quid by abusing peoples better nature.
if its overpriced it won't sell
OK, what if I get bargains off ebay and sell them on on here at a good price ? 😆 I've just got into building bikes and buying selling bits over the past year as I've been off work with anxiety/depression and threads like this really cheer me up 🙂 I think most people on here are just MTBrs who like to try new bits and bikes out and could never afford the prices new, and none of us are ever going to get rich out of buying and selling; it just goes back into more bikes and bike bits. Addicted moi? Yes, and I love it.
fennerhorne - absolutely spot on
its not the over priced stuff people are bothered about, its the traders driving down the price and people letting them have it as they *think* its helping someone out of a sticky spot and allowing them to get out on there bike again, where in reality its just helping them make a bigger profit margin.
its a bit like someone waiting at the trail edge pretending to fix a puncture and accepting inner tubes from everyone who goes past and then selling them on. They wouldn't be doing anything illegal as they were given the tubes freely, however its not really in the spirit of things.
you are paranoid are you not?
If you get a bit you want at a bargain price - quelle problem?
you have someting to sell,it goes on sale..you get the price your happy with
and then you forget about it.
or you can stalk the buyer for the rest of you life.
Not sure I agree with the forum capitalists on this one. If small time traders are buying up the reasonably priced stuff in order to make a profit, over time that's going to drive up the price. Supply and demand plays a part but you can also get a situation where people pay over the odds for stuff just because they expect to.
driving down the price? what are you on about man??!!
1. if you are selling and someone is haggling to find a more agreeable price and you feel as if you are being hard done by then don't sell
2. if you are buying and the price is too high and the seller wont haggle then dont buy.
stick by those rules and you wont feel like you have been hard done by regardless if someone gives it a polish and makes some extra dough. thats just a basic finacial risk assessment and could go either way.
another thing which isnt factored is the huge time and effort commitment it takes to strip bike to sell for parts. if you work it out in terms of £/hr it really is not that good a proposition!
Glad to be shot of it now although if you see a sitter, why not buy it??!!
bustafa your first point is a thread closer for me how can it be more complex than that?
I know i wasnt gona comment on this anymore...But when i see the amount of people commenting i feel i have to..
DAFFY was not the only one interested in the wheels..Cheap yes, and gettin passed on to another mtb associate im happy with..
15-20 people contacted me before daffy did,,timewasters and ****s (not all of them, you know who you are,and you do it on loads of threads.) wanting an even better bargain...
He came up with the cash first after the wasters and the browserz wasted most of the day. So i really dont see where stw folk can say he stopped people from buying who realy need them.
So what we are left with is;
Community vs Free market economics
I suspect this argument is going to run and run 🙁
I think to trade is against the spirit of the forum.
I think to try to recover your spending is OK
I am careful who I offer things to depending on how often they post whether it is genuine or just to get free bits etc.
I have given and received stuff for free and had some good bargains ...most of which I have passed on by selling the replacement stuff at a similar reasonable/good price.... surely this is more what the forum should be about?
Just a microcosm of the real world some people will be nice and some people will exploit that for their own personal gain.
In this instance Daffy (and I don't know him) you have my sympathies as I don't think you are trading just trying to cover your costs/losses
I can't be bothered to read all the replies but the best response i ever saw on this subject was from mrmichaelwright of this 'ere forum who wrote something along the lines of:
"I bought some bananas in Tesco the other day for two quid. turns out he had bought them off some bloke in the windies for 10p".
Get over it.
the only person who could be offended by it, is the person who owned it originally, but they couldnt be arsed to faff with ebay, and didnt want it anyway.
ive got some bits i want out of my life, as far as im concerned they can go in a skip, but someone may appreciate them and ide rather they went to a home than landfill,
when i get around to cataloguing it, it will be going on STW for free (other than cost of postage if not locals)
if someone manages to get a tenner for something, good for them, i cant be arsed with fleabay

Right now scardypants I can't afford the "Hit" I'm a student who was living offof the interest on my savings. I can't afford to do that now, hence selling stuff, Including the Ti456, the Kona A, ALL my spare wheels, the Alfine, the Satmap etc etc.Starting to downgrade and hopefully get enough cash to survive until the summer.
I can't be bothered to read any further than the quote above, I'd love to be a 'poor' student, having to live off my savings and shed some of my spare wheeels!! FFS, try being employed, having every single perk removed, shift allowances cut, no sign of a payrise with ever increasing outgoings.... Savings are a thing of the past!
Oh, and yes, I agree with the original post, it shouldn't go on on a regular basis, sure I've bought a seatpost that I didn't end up using, stuck it on ebay to see if I got more or less for it and made about 6 quid before the commission, paypal fees etc, but it could have gone the other way. (It seemed at first the seatpost had got lost in the post and the buyer told me they were a poor struggling student that couldn't afford to lose any money, nor can the employed!!!)
Sorry, rant over.
olly you are right... Im not offended though, and i couldnt be arsed .
but it has made me look at the moanin c***s on stw in a different light.
