[Closed] Penmachno - worth driving up from Coed-Y-Brenin for?

Will be up in the Coed y Brenin area soon and was wondering it was worth going the extra 40 minutes up to Penmachno? Planning a few days in the area but haven't done either before and it looks like Coed y has enough trials for a weekends riding. Or is Penmachno worth the extra effort?

Yes. I much prefer Pen to anything CYB has to offer.

Horses for courses though.

Yes, it's great and makes a good two-day trip with the beast/tawr at CYB.

Not better than CYB IMO, just different, but just as good.

DeeJay - I hope that's not a picture of you pushing up the long climb out back at NyA?

No.

Wasn't impressed with it, I'm afraid. Would far rather head to NYA instead.

Prefer CYB, but yes it's worth the drive. It has a more natural feel than most other built trails.

Penmachno is cool, stand out part for me is the last blast back to the parking area,
Th Guys that built the trail are all keen MTB riders so that explains the good riding it offers, the trail ranger at PyB is the guy that built the trail at Pen, so thank him if you see him , real nice guy

Anyone got a map (or a GPS route/track) linking the Marin trail across to the Penmachno one?

Make a day of it! 😀

I really enjoyed it - the top section (Middle Earth ?) was great fun. And as JD-Boy says the final blast down into the car park a blast.
Not for those who don't like climbing and need a cafe at the end.

I live in North Wales so am blessed to have all the areas trail centres available to ride within a short drive. Penmachno, still my fave by a country mile

Amen to that!!

Penmachno is really horrible when wet and is one big miserable slog after a sustained wet period which is exactly what we've had in north wales .

Ace in the dry though.

Penmachno underwhelmed me when I rode there back at the end of 2006. I had more fun at Coed y Brenin and Nant yr Arian is ace. I can't recall if I was just having a bad day or what, though, plus it may have changed a lot in the intervening (nearly 4) years.

Chrisl 2nd loop wasn't open then...probably the best bit(s), agree with you that NYA and CYB both better than Penmachno though!
