Its been a few years since I've been to this area of the Uk, and I'm looking at these 2 ancient routes for a DIY holiday over 2 days (maybe extending it down to Stonehendge via the Ridgeway)

I'm willing to bet that its changed a little bit from what I remember, so what would be advisable?

The choices for bikes, are my gravel bike on 40c's or my 29er HT.

My memories of the area (certainly Thetford) are of hardpack sand, chalk and flint.

Personally I'd go for the latter for comfort. There's been a fair bit of rain recently, some sections are quite slick, might depend on tyres

(I rode some bits on 2.1 Nanos that weren't the right tyres)

I should add that whilst I hope to do it this year, it could be postponed until the summer and it's dry!

Comfort is king. 29er and big (tough) tyres!
