Peak District tomor...

Peak District tomorrow (BH Monday), will it be rammed?

I’ve unexpectedly got tomorrow free, and given the good weather want to get out for a decent hilly ride, ideally not the usual local bridleways etc (around Daventry) or the usual default Cannock trip.

Will the Peak District be rammed and best avoided tomorrow though? Are any areas best avoided and if so what area would be best for a BH Monday?

The Dark Peak will likely be very busy tomorrow, avoid the Ladybower area.

Other areas are usually less busy, but you'll still need to get there early.

White Peak will be quieter, but given the recent weather I think it'll be like riding through the Somme.

Avoid Bakewell, Ashbourne, Matlock Bath too…. Routes from Buxton or Leek might be better or even the Teggs Nose area East of Macclesfield/Congleton?

Hmmm, I think I’ll give it a miss tomorrow then. I was thinking of an Edale route - hollins cross / mam tor etc. Probably best left for when it’s not swarming with walkers.

That route is usually not too bad, as most of it is a bit too remote to get too many walkers on it. They all go up mam tor, and Jacob's ladder can be busy at the top, but from midpoint down, the walkers are coming up a different route to the one that bikers ride down. Apart from that it tends to be ok.

I live right near the Peak and I give it a wide swerve on a bank holiday. It's bad enough on a normal Sunday.

Come up to the Dales. There will be a few busy honeypots but lots of space around them.

There’s been a steady procession of boy racers and motorbikes past my front door on the road out to Chatsworth this morning so I’m guessing it’ll be mobbed tomorrow too if sunny. When I lived in Hathersage, bank holidays were the best time to go elsewhere, and as I parked on the street there it was impossible to get a parking spot until after 6pm when everyone had left for the day.

I find it less bad going out of Hayfield than the other places like Hope, Hathersage, Bakewell etc. I'd be avoiding Edale/Hollins Cross. Derbyshire seems to have a disproportionate number of whinging ramblers. (Doubly hypocritical given it too a walkers mass trespass in Derbyshire for ramblers to have any access).

I'd take that other offer of going into the Dales!

The weather here has been shit all day plus heavy showers yesterday, the trails around Hayfield area (where I've just been walking) are just slop.

Over towards Edale side as it gets rockier are likely OK but that'll be the busier place.

I’d go for it but just avoid the worst honey pots. The wet today will reduce numbers some what. I’d starting from Hayfield is a good shout.

I did a mini tour between youth hostels, in the Peak, over one of the May bank holidays. Busy in places by no regrets

I was going to suggest Shropshire. Plenty of elevation and not much difference in travelling.

I'm currently at Chatsworth having been for a hike, was going to road ride but the forecast was crap. It's turned out a nice day this side of the hills, (sorry @crazy-legs). Happy with my choice though, the roads are manic, not looking forward to getting out of here.
