Afternoon...
I have heard of putting cassettes and chains in the dishwasher, but what about a manky direlliure? I've got anold X9 that I want to resurrect but can't be arsed with the faf of stripping it etc. Will it die? Will mrsvader kill me? Can I get away with it? Your thoughts please?
Cheers
I wouldnt put anything in that has enclosed areas that are supposed to have grease in them.
ie bearings, pivots, spring mechanisms...
That's kind of what I figured too... But it's mining!!!
And it works pretty well:

But anything with pivots in will die. You might well get a flaming from the missus. This picture cost me a new oven (needed cleaning anyway so no real loss):

EDIT: oh, and don't mix your stuff with crockery. Apparently that's not on. So the rotors, juicer parts, bowls and coffee press shouldn't have gone in together. Apparently. ๐
how the hell did you get away with the alloy? Chapeau Sir!!
Chain and cassette are going in on Friday... My day off! Am I chicken??? Oh yes! Guess I'd best get the brushes out and strip the bugger then...
If you are washing stuff avoid high temperature washes which will fade the anodising.
For mechs some petrol and a toothbrush do a decent job.

Was the missus more annoyed about the wheels, or the bog seat being left up?
Make sure you take the parts out asap and dry them off. If you leave them in for a while after they can get rust build up from the salt in the dishwasher. Go careful with polished aluminium, mine came out tarnished.
Why would you want to put rotors in a dishwasher? You would them need to use some IPA to get rid of any contaminants after.
Cleaning a derailleur, I would use degreaser, stiff small brush and clean rags. You could lose the grease inside. If you totally dissembled the mech (a pain) you can really clean it then re-lube. ๐
