Is there some parking next to the old railway line by the Derwent just south of Ladybower? I seem to remember seeing some as I rode down the railway line some time ago.
p.s. I'm not talking about Heatherdene - I want to be on the other side of the dam.

Yes there is a little car park just before you get to Thornhill where the old railway line crosses the road

That's the place. It is basically just a big layby but enough room for maybe 10 cars.
