[#13535626]

I've got a pair of Ortlieb Back Roller Classics that I use for commuting. I picked them up second hand a few years ago and they've been grand. But one of them has a hole on the bottom corner that I've not managed to patch.

They don't owe me anything, so unless anyone has any foolproof patching suggestions I think they're due for replacement.

Another set of exactly the same looks like the best option. Or is there anything else I should be looking at? I'd like a pair, at least 20l a side (needs to fit laptop, lunch, clothes), waterproof. Not fussed about loads of compartments, I'm happy to just chuck them in and I use a laptop sleeve.

Duct tape.

Doing a sterling job on my 1997 Vaude paniers on the way to work this morning.

I redo it once a year. Takes 5 min. Waterproof on the pin holes mine have developed

I'll give that a go. It's quite a big hole though, Gear Aid tape hasn't sorted it. Could possible be from the time(s) I didn't quite get them seated right and they ended up bouncing down the road a bit.

A mate brought in a set of Tailfin 16L and 10L today to show a work colleague - they are by far the best panniers I've ever seen - the fitting system is a work of art. Absolutely rock solid on his Cube Acid rear rack.

+1 on fix them. Glue, tape, warmth and effort and you should be ok.

Failing that, just get a dry bag for inside the pannier.

Well, you've all inspired me to fix them. I've tried a bigger Gear Aid patch (duct tape doesn't work on the outside 'cos it's on the woven side bit, not the shiny front bit) and a patchwork of duct tape on the inside (which is shiny). So we'll see how that goes. If no good I'm thinking maybe clean up an old inner tube and glue that on.

Or like @matt_outandabout says, a dry bag. Of which I have several. Sometimes the simplest solutions are the best, right?

Although those Tailfins do look nice.

duct tape is shit.

Get the clear gorilla tape on the go - seems to stick to anything - Been sealing the other woven section on my 20 year old Altura orkneys for the last 10 years or so.

Failing that fire some mcnett seam grip in there and one of their patches.

The issue of patches is that OP says it's on the corner. I've multiple dry bags that have died due to holes on corners...but we can but try.

Yeah the corner is the issue, and the fact that it's on the woven bit. Patch and tape seem to be holding for now, we'll see how it goes. If not I might have a look at those Vaude patches. My hole is significantly larger though. Ooer.

AIUI, the material is the same as lorry curtain sides. If you Google that, you'll find repair kits suitable for very ham fisted heavy duty use. Might just be enough for an office worker carrying his sandwiches...🤪
