Going abroad with the bike for the first time and I'm looking for something to keep the brake pads apart. Brakes are Avid Elixir 1s.

If you've not got the spacers you can just use some small pieces of corrugated cardboard off a box and stick a few between the pads.
It's worked for me in the past when I've shipped bikes somewhere.

You can buy Avid bleed blocks. These [url= http://cdn.mos.bikeradar.com/images/news/2008/08/07/Elixir_CR_pad_spacer-798-75.jp g" target="_blank">http://cdn.mos.bikeradar.com/images/news/2008/08/07/Elixir_CR_pad_spacer-798-75.jp g"/> &imgrefurl= http://weightweenies.starbike.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f%3D1%26t%3D115501&h=599&w=798&sz=37&tbnid=5YCR_JzYuz5SmM:&tbnh=102&tbnw=136&zoom=1&usg=__wmXVcD8Y9holYCsqDAW07wQwbcE=&docid=ViZuf2ZyCjRVHM&sa=X&ei=b4lBUrjBLdOw7AaCr4DgBw&sqi=2&ved=0CHEQ9QEwBA&dur=295 ]things[/url]. Cost about £3.99 each, or as above just make/bodge your own spacer.

I keep all my hotel key cards to use as spacers. I used 3 the other day to line up my bb7's with the right offset. A tip from this very site recently - can't recall who to credit with that idea but it worked a treat.
