This was home turf when I was a child!
I'd love to get hold of a printed copy of this issue if any are still around.

I've got a copy @Ben_Haworth if you want it? It's sitting on a bookshelf along with all the other copies going back to about Issue 4 (not got the first 3 but I've got most of the rest). There's little point keeping the collection "together" since I imagine it'd have to be one hell of a geeky person to want to buy all of them!

The ones I definitely want to keep are the ones where I wrote articles / route guides!

PM me your address if you want it (it might be after Christmas now though).

Did that descent into Little Stretton in October last year. It was monsoon weather and the track was completely under water, hairy as you like with some nasty drops to one side. Big grins at the bottom of the run, but mostly due to relief that we had made it down unscathed! 🙂

Exactly that. More maps. Great rides. Lots of normal UK mountain biking.

Nice blast from the past! And it’s still epic 😀 I had the absolute joy of letting my daughter experience all the trails around the Long Mynd this summer, “Dad, this is the best place in the world” pretty much sums up her thoughts, to say she was giddy with happiness is somewhat of an understatement 🤣 thankfully we live nearby!

Another local here.  I love the Long Mynd and surrounding area.  It's brilliant for mtb. I've also had the pleasure of showing a few people routes like Minton Batch or the ridge run from the golf club down to the Carding Mill valley for their first time.  It's epic to see their enthusiastic reactions!  More recently I've had a couple of overnight bikepacking trips up there too.  The rest of South Shropshire is pretty awesome for mountain biking too. Mortimer/Bringewood, Hopton, Bucknell, Eastridge, Bury Ditches, Wrekin etc. For health reasons I'm off the bike for a couple of months atm.  As soon as I'm fit and well again, I shall be straight back up there like a rat up a drain pipe!

Absolutely agree, we are absolutely spoilt in Shropshire, the biggest problem is that some of the places are just too much fun 😆  so even though we rode a huge amount over the summer, we didn’t get everywhere this year! And having Wales on the doorstep doesn’t help either  😀 talk about a problem!

It is round the back of Jonathans Hollow then head towards the car park at Carding Mill (around the outside edge of the golf course), there are a few cool little sections there! 🙂

Thanks - must explore that a little. I usually just head up through Priors Holt woods, ride the length of the Mynd northwards to Plush Hill, then drop down to Inwood and All Stretton. Or down into Long Batch via the narrow track at SO44899608. I can do either of those with my eyes (metaphorically) shut, but rarely explore elsewhere. Obviously that's my loss, which will be corrected next time I'm up there on a dryish day.

Only ridden it a few times, mostly as part of the Batch Burner. Makes a nice change to the local Peak District riding.

Shropshire is one of the places we're looking to move to in a few years time. Obviously local riding will need to play into that equation as I'm spoilt here by having some fairly good stuff rideable from home.

Give me a shout if you are down here and want a guide, happy to take you to some of the different spots in Shropshire 🙂 We absolutely love living here!

So not the narrow climb up along the valley side from Jonathan's Hollow which ends with a short sharp climb over a rock then. Good test though

Need to explore more when I am next down there.

Isn't that descent off Round Hill to Little Stretton a footpath? Looks that way on the map. Not that I mind some responsible cheeky trailage.

Hmm. The text seems to have been lost 😔

Anyway the landowner for much of the Long Mynd is the National Trust. They publish a booklet of map guides for MTBs inc. the descent via Round Hill down to Little Stretton. This legally a footpath not a bridleway but as we have the landowner's permission it is all OK in this particular instance. I'm thus wondering if the NT have a relaxed view to riding on footpaths up on the Long Mynd.

It was cold up there today.

Has anyone got a GPX of the ‘big’ route they could share, unfortunately I don’t have Komoot so can’t use that version.

Thanks

Managed to find a route via Strava segments, actually found the same route above.

It’s proper XC , but was great fun today in all the snow. Would love to go back one dry summers evening too.

Did I see you up there today?!? Amazing ride, so much fun it was faintly ridiculous, I stuck some piccies and blurb in the WRPT 🙂 Two of us, LP Overvolt and Amflow…

We even managed some of the very narrow, icy singletrack, with interesting exposure, certainly went steady compared to the summer 🙂

Quite possibly I waved at a couple of blokes on bikes, I was in an orange jacket.

It was proper Baltic I had wanted to do 25+ miles, but my battery was emptying quicker than normal, mixture of all the snow and the extreme cold. It got to the point my SPDs froze up

Also as you went west it felt very isolated. I didn’t fancy having an accident out there by myself !

Will definitely be back though, just will start from where you did or the other end (where I had intended to but the lanes were too snow covered to drive up) rather than paying £6 to park

If you fancy it and the weather isn’t too manky a bit later in Jan / Feb, we could meet up for a Long Mynd wander. I usually park either at Carding Mill Valley as I’m a NT member or Blazing Bikes, more often the former! Maybe a few others of this parish would fancy it too?!? 🙂
