Greetings all,

I've got a refund credit note with a big retailer and I'm looking to upgrade my crankset. I'm not into carbon at all (clumsy) and indeed have a bike where gram counting doesn't make too much sense but then this isn't an entirely sensible purchase...

I'm mainly deciding between XTR M9020 and Hope as a 1x11. The latter is obviously heavier and more expensive given current prices... I wouldn't describe myself as a Hope fanboi; the only current Hope component on my bike is the seatpost clamp and the bike came with it, but UK-made doesn't have zero appeal.

Given me puny legs I need to run a 30T ring, which I'd do via the spider and a Wolftooth Components stainless steel number on the Hope (can't find image of combo but here's the chainring) -

WTC are hinting at 96mm BCD stainless rings, but then there's always the C-Ti alternative that is, to me, seriously gorgeous and less than the cost of three aluminium rings.

Who wants to influence my feeble decision-making processes? All messages, subliminal or otherwise, much appreciated.

Cheers,
Gaidong

*edit* for Hope I'd need to get a new BB, and the Hopey ones 4x the cost of XTR...

I'm trying to make the same decision. I think i'm going to go XTR because the BB price from Hope does put me off a bit. I was going to go XT cranks but heard a lot of comments about the paint rubbing off after use which sounds disappointing.

I thought you were selling King Crimson albums.

I can confirm the finish on the M8000 cranks is rubbish, apparently it's not much better on the M9000 either.

Those rings on the other hand are lovely.

Go SRAM, take the bigger range

Ha ha, Mike, this is with a GX cassette!

I wrote the Hope off myself as the price is just crazy.

Then I did some more reading. I said my bike wasn't really made for being light and I am clumsy. So I opted for an SLX M665 with the reinforced axle and pedal inserts ( http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/fr/en/shimano-slx-m665-double-chainset/rp-prod28019). Only about 40g more than M8000 and much stronger. WTC SS ring on its way from Germany too ( https://www.bikeavenue.de/b2c/Wolftooth-Kettenblaetter-single-BCD-104-stainless-steel-1x10-1x11-speed-XX1) - mucho cheapo.

I'll go all XTR one day but not today and not on the current bike. Nice to know I'm not completely ruled by frippery ๐Ÿ˜€

Cheers.
