So I'm thinking of getting a steel frame to replace my cracked carbon frame. I want an XC bike that's comfortable to ride all day. I considered a full sus - Five or Meta 5.5 etc etc but that'd cost way more and I've aready an old Kona Coiler. Think I really want a hardtail again! Any opinions? Also anyone know what a P7 frame weighs?

P.S I don't want an Inbred!

Cotic 2kg / 4.4lbs?

Tea&Medals on here has a really nice looking silver Genesis, presumably also 853.

Havent ridden a Cotic but they look very nice. I have a P7 though and it's great, it feels heavy when you do the one-hand-pick-up-in-the-car-park test but rides much lighter. It's a good bike going up, down and on twisty singletrack.

P7 doesn't really represent very good value IMO, if it had an On One sticker on it it'd cost £250. Still, a nice frame but you're paying 851 prices for it if you buy it as a standalone, which is a bit silly.

My medium Soul weighted in at 4.2lbs, so there's a fair weight difference though not the end of the world- you wouldn't begrudge it if the P7 was much cheaper, but a Soul's still only £470 new while a 2010 P7 is £450.

Ridewise, they're not massively different, the Soul to me feels a wee bit more lively and agile, the P7 a wee bit more stable. I don't have enough time in the seat of a P7 to really compare but it feels slower and a wee bit dead by comparison to my Soul. Can't say as I'd object to owning one though.

Any excuse, but I just love my Soul, it just does everything I want and puts a massive grin on my face 🙂

I don't really think you could go wrong with either.

I'd say it depends on what forks you want to run on it.

If you only want 100<130 then the Soul (at 4.2lbs for the medium) would be the one.

If you want to run 140mm the P7 (although I agree with others above that its a bit pricey for what you get).

I'm biased as I have a Soul (which I really like) and I can happily recommend one.

Ok thanks, the soul does look very nice and if it's lighter too that's definitely a plus point over the P7.

I actually got my 2010 P7 frame for £399 so £50 off RRP, and that was from my LBS 😀

I've got a P7 - 08 slidey drop outs. It's a good all round trail bike, bit on the heavy side. In hindsight though I wish I bought the Cotic 🙄

They're both too expensive. I've got a P7. Nice bike,but so's the Cotic.

Another vote for the Cotic Soul from me. Feels light and spritely and eager to get going, even my large one. £470 does include the seat post clamp and rear chainstay protector in the price.
