Has anyone tried replacing the bearings from an Orange Five without the little bearing press? Did it work / how did you do it? Thanks.

Just buy the tool from kinetic it makes changing X2 6902 bearings even easier than it is .
There are methods I've used with sockets etc but tbh if your needing to ask I'd just buy the tool

If you’re near Brighton you can borrow mine. I think the orange segment has the same bearings

IMG_2322I’ve changed the frame bearings on my Orange Gyro with items I had laying in the shed

Just drilled a hole in a piece of wood to support, it worked fine and was free, used a drift and two blocks of wood and knipex pliers wrench to press the new bearings in

I followed theOrange Bearing Guide from their website

If you have some space to work and the tools and time it is certainly doable

If you remain in doubt or intend to keep your bike for a while, may be worth checking out Bearing Pro Tools as they seem good value and built specifically for the job

I did my Orange Alpine using a hammer and a bit of wood following the instructions on the Orange website several years ago. No special tools. I assume they’re similar.

I was going to post 'buy the tool' when you posted this thread an hour ago but didn't wanna be that typical STW guy that doesn't answer the question you've asked lol

Even better: buy a proper slide hammer and bearing press set, that way you'll do a nice job with your frame bearings, and every other bearing you have to replace from here on out, it's not worth damaging bearings, sockets, or (the worst case) your frame when instead you can enjoy using a proper tool, don't need anything mega fancy.

I’m not sure if everyone recognises that the newer oranges are different to the older ones in terms of bearing replacement. Used to required only a mallet and hex keys. These days not so brutalist

Thanks for the responses all, esp. those kind offers of tool lending - I'm in Peebles though.

Yeah, because of the lip direction it's (as far as I can see) not possible to just use the socket/drift method, cos the angle for hammering is all wrong.

I might give the Bearing Pro Tools tool a go, although I've had one of their blind pullers before for a Canyon frame and, frankly, it was pretty rubbish.
