this is looking like a likley contender as general duties bike through the C2W scheme - anyone ridden one ? It will not be taking over the serious riding role of my steel hardtail or full susser, more riding with the kids, holidays, centerparcs etc etc. It is between this and the Genesis Core 10, which is a little bit less cash and a liitle lower spec
anyone..
I saw the base one yesterday. (red) and the changes seem great for the frame, very nice, the parts are adequate, the fork I would consider changing.
If it's just for the purposes you mention, I'd be more tempted to go for more of an 'urban' style bike, than a mountain bike.
Do you even need front sus for riding with the kids & center parcs?
Something like that would also look a bit more subtle too & less likely to be nicked.
The frame's not really that different, slimmed down slightly. The Dart fork isn't great, but at least it weighs a fair bit less than the Tora that used to come on the basic Rockhopper, that was actually made of pig iron!
Stumpy01 - spot on, and that was what I was originally looking for :

but there ain't much around that fits the bill, excwept the Ridgeback Storm, which ain't available anymore..
ideal spec would be fully rigid, deore groupset and deore discs.......
as said by others above, suspension fork at this price point is gonna be a pretty poor performer
Ah....just looked at your other thread. Not a lot of responses.
Have you looked at the Spesh Sirrus or Vienna?
The Sirrus looks like more of an efficient commuter bike, whereas the Vienna looks like a laid back mooch around style bike.
My LBS had the Vienna in a while back and it looked quite nice, in an understated (not likely to get nicked) kinda way.
Or are you limited to certain bikes due to where your getting it from through the C2W thing?
stumpy01 - yeah I had looked at that but for the money I reckon I am as good getting either Rockhopper at £700 or Genesis Core 10 at £600. The price difference under C2Work is negligible. Our scheme is Halfords, but they can get pretty much any bike that's available in UK (except Focus etc.
The spec looks fine but the fork is going to be crap, but for what I am doing with it probably just a bit extra weight rather than something which will affect performance. I reckon there is a bit of a gap in the market ....
I'd be extremely wary of the whole 'any bike through Halfords' thing, Specialized UK have said emphatically that they're not supplying Halfords, it's a third party (Leisure Lakes?) are selling Halfords the bikes, who are selling them onto you. That means you have no warranty, as you're not the original owner, Halfords are.
Sure it won't matter for most things they can sort out in shop, but you're likely to have some serious problems if you ever need a frame or sommat.
Just my £0.02.
Interesting - why would Specialized refuse to supply Halfords? I'm in the same boat with Halfords operating our C2W scheme and am trying to get a short-list together - which would include a Rockhopper, if indeed Halfords can get me one.
maybe something has changed, but guys at work were getting Specialized bikes this time last year on the Halfords scheme
I got my Spesh from Halfords on C2W but njee20 said, it does come via Leisure Lakes.
