[#8172901]

Built up my on-one frame recently, and I'm a bit puzzled by the bolt though rear axle...

The only way I can see to install/remove it, is to open the "QR" lever, then, with a 3mm Allen key remove the 3mm bolt entirely, and then remove the axle.

This seems like the worst solution i have ever come across, I know its an on-one what do i expect etc etc...

OR I am an idiot and missing the obvious way it works....
any help?

In the 3rd picture, that looks like a threaded sleeve which should remain on the axle? The 3mm bolt is just for adjusting the indexing, judging by the scale on the end of the axle.
Once undone, the QR lever should be used as a lever to turn the axle counter clockwise.

It's not that unusual to have a 3mm bolt in a through axle to prevent it becoming undone. Wor lasses spitfire has something similar. The fact it is QR on the other end is odd though.

I know what your saying re the 3rd pic, and the markings on the axel, but that sleeve seems captive, opening the lever doesn't result in the axle pulling out...

But it seems to have at least 2 nibs that would meet equivalent pockets on the axle, allowing it to be undone:

Having that bit captive in the dropout sticking out like this doesn't make any sense, as far as the 142x12 standard is concerned.

I see what you mean, and agree with the point about it sticking out!
I'll have another go tonight

So when you undo the QR, you can't just screw out the axle?
You have to hold he female end with an allen key?
If you do that, does the female end just fall out?
