Basically I'm only in the market for a rear wheel, but the (cheapo) tart in me doesn't like the idea of having mismatched wheels. So, I'm thinking Mavic Crossrides or a little more money for Fulcrum Red Metal 5's. Is there anyone with experience of the Fulcrums? Apart from a few customer reviews on CRC and the like, there is very little info about them on the net. The crossrides, on the other seem to be tried and tested, good value wheels.
The thing that tempts me about the Fulcrum's is that they look a bit nicer imo, weigh slightly less, have oversized axles and (possibly) slightly faster pickup. All this for not much more money.
(otherwise I could just buy a nicer rear wheel for the same money. something in a Hope/Stan's flavour 😯 but this would create a blackhole of ugliness when matched to my silver XT/Mavic front wheel)
have a chat with john at jra as he was getting some stans hoops painted/powder coated. there's a shot of some on here somewhere as big matt with the santa cruz has some.
Thanks, I'll check with them. I had a look at what they have in stock before and liked the idea of one of their custom wheels, but it felt like I might get more choice but less 'features' for the money.
Check how much replacement freehubs are for the Fulcrums, i had their road wheels and the price seemed high.
£50 on CRC 😯 Only slightly less than Hope. It seems that a lot of their models use the same one though, so that kinda bodes well for quality. I've found a cheap set locally so I think I might bite the bullet tomorrow.
I recently bought the Fulcrum 5's after taking my time looking about, as im a bit of a tight arse as well.. 😉
so far so good, very pleased with them. well worth a punt IMO
