Ive just built up a On One Inbread single speed frame .Ive not put any miles on it yet but wanted to check something first.Basically the issue i have or could have is to do with the rear I.S brake mount .As its a single speed frame the IS mount on the frame has adjuster slots so the caliper can move forward and back as needed to keep it inline with the disc when taking up the slack on the chain. The issue i potentially have is that if my new chain stretches i have no further movement to slide the caliper back as its at its furthest point. It is currently in a spot on position as far as contact with disc/pads but should the chain stretch (not sure how much they do ) i can only move the wheel back and this will mean the pads will not be fully covering the disc.Ive tried the wheel as far forward as it can go which would be the best option but the chain will be about 2mm to short if i remove a further 2 links and so i cant join it .
My only conclusion is to ride it as is for now and then if the chain stretches much it will allow me to remove a further two links and still be able to joint it up and then the wheel will be all the way forward and have loads of adjustment as will the caliper .
does this sound like my only option,or should my chain not stretch much so no problems should arise anyway?
If your chain stretches, then it's worn and needs replacing. Shunting the wheel back is just compensating for a worn chain - better to swap the chain and save the sprockets.
buy a single link chain like a charge masher, that'll solve your problem.
Or, presuming you're using a thicker ss specific or bmx chain, [as you should be, as a9/10 speed chain will stretch like it's made of rubber if you run it ss] you can buy an individual single link for a quid or two.

No it won't. Chains don't stretch like that .
Fwiw I use avids so messed around with the washers to get more options. Mine is set up so some movement is tollerable.
By the time the rear wheel needs moving you will probably need a new chain.
Hi thanks ,ive been advised when buildinbg this bike to use a 9 speed chain and 3/32 sprockets so can use a bmx chain .i'll just see how my kmc super light chain fares and go from there i guess .
KMC z610 3/32 singlespeed specific chain is one of the best to use. As rated by myself and many others on here.
You can replace the chain when it wears if you like. I got three years of hard use out of my last SS chain.
