In other news, bears defecate in the woods. They've been doing it for years, I'm more surprised when something stays the same price there.

i like the way they launch there own branded stuff with an RRP and then give a discount. Never quite sure of the legality if that but i assume its just deliberately misleading rather than unlawful.

I particularly love their trick of changing the spec at the same time as applying a discount. Wheelsets seem to be particularly vulnerable. Oh yes, the bike you were looking at yesterday had 1800g wheels, today it's 2100g!

Ti something.  £600 frame £2200 with Ultegra 8000.

And BB5 brakes.   Lol.

If memory serves from my brief time in retail, the company has to sell it at full retail for a short period before discounting to make it legal. The period isn't very long though.

To give you an idea of how long ago I found this out, at the time it referred to Eisenegger clothing. Things may* have changed during the evolution of the internet.

*very probably

Provided you've had it on sale at full price (and this could be hidden away in their showroom not online) for 28 days, and then can also prove at least one bought at full price (so a staff purchase expenses back if you feel really cynical), you're good. Well not good, but not touchable.

Think it is a shame On One have fallen so far. Stopped even visiting the site after they stopped stocking anything I might be interested in and started selling what ever  box of stuff they found whilst picking through the bones of some collapsed company or other.

Stumbled across that site the other day and had to wonder who on earth is buying bikes such as the ancient Codine especially now it doesn’t even have the fancy groupset and fork to tempt you.

I'm also guessing they have some sort of algorithm on the website (or a webmonkey behind a keyboard) that ups the price when a few discounted items are sold.

I did a PSA on some bars there a few weeks bsck, and within 24 hours they'd gone up by 50%.

I don’t believe this has been true for some time. AIUI complaints are looked at on a case by case basis, with the retailer having to justify their pricing strategy. I think regulators are moving more towards 1:1 ratios of on/off sale. I guess PX must just be too small to be noticed, or no-one’s complained, as I can’t see how what they’re doing is at all legal.

When you get to the checkout it becomes clear that warranty support and customer service isn't included in the 'cut price', or proper design of products.

OnOne are down there with nPower, TalkTalk and British Gas for 'never, ever, ever deal with again'.

we've all been around long enough to know there's a game to be played.

I dont go with the PX/O-O bashing myself.

Keep an eye oout for VAT quarter days for best deals.

PX will list a small number of frames or bikes at good discounts to up the cashflow. Then once those discounted units are sold, the price reverts.

Got a cracking deal on an EXO3 frameset for Mrs S for £900 a few weeks ago.

Px oo are what they are because we demand cheap prices.

It's the old light, strong, cheap triangle, pick 2

Customer service, cheap goods, quality goods. Pick 2.

If they paid more in staff wages, retained quality people etc the costs would be passed onto us and we would complain. If the prices were higher they would probably struggle.

Tbh with the weaker pound and the Germans selling cheap goods I think they have done a fantastic job of finding their place in a difficult market.

From time to time I've had some great bargains from px and oo, I bet we all have and Id rather have a budget px oo frame with some poor come back than a Chinese import with none.

As long as you understand this upfront and you know your rights then I don't have an issue with them.

Another odd sale where now on the second day, the discount has dropped, this time from 17% to 15%...

So who in their right mind, is now going to pull the trigger on something non-essential? o_O

I've often wondered about the legality of giving a quoted discount and RRP for 'not for retail sale' OEM equipment; presumably OEM kit can't have an RRP (sometimes retail and OEM kit are exactly the same - sometimes they're not).

Who considers 17% discount a ‘sale’? It’s **** all, 50% is a sale.
