Fancy sponsoring me and you can win a TV? Fancy riding some or all of the route with me? *TV, radio and newspapers will (*probably) be reporting it. Papers and radio have confirmed and I only thought of doing it yeterday morning.
On the 14th July 2012, I'm going to cycle from Olympic Park to Manchester Velodrome. Aproximately 200 miles. It'd be lovely to see some of you on the road that day. It would also be double lovely if you would be kind enough to donate £1 to my charity [url] http://www.sah.org.uk/ [/url] at my page [url] http://www.justgiving.com/stannsbigbikeride [/url]. Every £1 donation will get you a ticket in to a prize draw, to be held at the hospice the day aftee the ride to win a 19", HD ready, Freeview equiped TV. Just email your details: name, text number, address, whatever you like and I'll let you have your ticket number(s).
I was going to do it for MIND also (I'm rapid cycling bipolar) but that was a little self indulgent. Sorry MIND, I hope you don't...mind that is.
I promise I'm not going to spam the forum. Pleaase don't nuclear bomb my post. I'll maybe give it a prod or two of the coming couple of months but I'm loath to get on people's nerves with it**
my email for the ride is stannsbigbikeride@gmail.com
blog is: http://stannsbikebikeride.blogspot.co.uk/
twitter is: stannsbigbike
facebook is: St Ann's Big Bike Ride.
Any publicity, links, mentions etc will be greatly appreciated
monksie - MemberI was going to do it for MIND also (I'm rapid cycling bipolar)
does that mean both of you will get there really quickly?
I'm in for the sponsorship (just done) and promotion bit (facebook and other forums when I get chance - lunch, probably). Might even consider joining you for the later stages when you'll appreciate the support, I expect
Thank you sir! The first donater is STW'er! Makes me proud! :-). I'll get some raffle tickets on the way Mr, thank you very much.
I'll be publishing the route on the blog with expected timings. It'd be ace to see some of you along the way.
In fact NBT, if you could oblige with the tandem somewhere north of Stoke?.....
Excellent stuff the flatboy:-). Now, where's your quid?
on its way. 🙂
What a brilliant idea.
I too will donate/sponsor you.
Is the tandem for you or can I come along too?
Thank you Jane. it's very much appreciated. Desperate times call for desperate measures. They're under the cosh financially and the only thing I'm any good at is pedalling.
I volunteered to help on the wards. I'm sure she (you know who) had a little heart attack at the prospect.
I don't mind who the captian is as long as the stoker (me) can go to sleep 🙂
If anybody else coud find [b]just a £1[/b]...it'd be greatly appreciated and you could win a TV. More prizes to come, No doubt bike related.
St. Ann's (and all the hospices) do an amazing job and it riles me greatly that they are charities.
Currently have a 24 year old single mum in for instance. 2 year old daughter with no other family is spending nights at one of the staff nurses homes!
It humbles me...........
There you go... best of luck with the ride!
Thanks loads Mint and Andrew. It's really appreciated. If you could just chuck a telephone number or address or something to stannsbigbikeride@gmail.com I can text or post ticket numbers to you both. You're in it so you could win it as they say 🙂
Are you passing our house any time soon Monksie? As I would like to buy some tickets and also donate (wait for it) a non bike related item for any ladies who don't cycle - 'A pink Union Jack sling bag'.
I'll get nbt to post up a picture of it later.
Thanks, but enough bl00dy teles in my house....
If I win sick it on ebay and put the money raise back in the pot please
Donated a random amount just to muck up you sums.
hahahahahaha 😈
BTW I've had a camera installed at Bargin Booze so you can't wee it up a wall like last time.
donated .
good luck .
rob.
That would be immense Jane, thank you! I'm well chuffed!
I'll be around your parts over the weekend if that's any good? I need to drop Jules tickets in as well.
Thanks to everybody who have sponsored me so far. Over £100 already and it only started today.
To everybody who has sent some money from here but haven't emailed contact details, I've written up tickets for you in your on screen names with (STW) as well and I'll post up the winners name(s) on this thread and email to your profiles. Chief Exec at the hospice is doing the draw so it'll all be proper 🙂
I'm doing my best to ignore Hoops but he makes it hard 🙂
That's really generous of you Ro5ey, thank you and again, thank you to all who have sponsored me so far.
have a fiver and a bump. 🙂
Thank you theflatboy- much appreciated and your tickets are in.
More goodies to be added to the prize draw later this week, Bike related and lovely.
Anybody else feeling kind enough to donate a £1 or more?
Thank you also for those on here who have accepted me as friend on Facebook. It's great having friends :-). Please feel absolutley free to chuck my Facebook and Twitter thing around. I have no idea how to do it all. I'm brand new to social media.
Thank you Rob, much appreciated.
OH-MY-VERY-WORD.....ELFIN!!! You GEEZER!!!!!!!
I have to confess, Elf and I had a crossing of swords. I was horrible to him, I was being a superior eejit. NO excuses about not being well....I was mean.
The very man has done a donation and is maybe coming to see me at the start! (Please don't chin me. I'll have a lot of peddaling to do with a busted jaw).
The penny has only just dropped who I've been chatting with via email. Thank you very much Sir. Hugs and kisses and tickets allocated.
Social Media is sooo yesterday. I'm going retro and CBing the news.
10-4 rubber ducky
I shall leave out some pennies and the bag out for collection, some time over the weekend.
Now stop flippin' spending time on here and get training young man!
Hoops! You're as barking as I am!
Thank you very much Jane. Let me know what time you're home and I'll make arrangements although Saturday is a big ride day (I better get started) and Sunday afternoon / evening I have to take Emily to Liverpool Echo Arena. Young Money Cash Money's finest : Drake.
She can barely sleep 🙂
Your bag is generating quite an interest here at work and I've put your emmyjanedesigns blog thingy on the Just Giving site. Everybody is waiting for payday. I think I need to rethink the target amount.
The bag is now up on my blog site (with 4 other new ones, if anyone would like to view it), and thanks for telling everyone, much appreciated.
Would you believe that little minx elfinsafety (Fred) is in the middle of ordering something from me too. I may even put him on my Christmas card list 😉 Do you think he'll look good prancing around That London sporting a floral Cath Kidston sling bag?
Probably see you Sunday, although we'll be out riding ourselves at some point.
I'll get Jules to send you a pm when he's time.
just while I'm 'ere....
I took a coping saw to the rear pads last night and cut me some X's. I reckon I've got about 20% more stop out of them 🙂 They're now peeling the rim chrome off, which is nice. I've also fangled the chain tug which the freewheel seemed to appreciate. The two front pegs are going to be turned into Salt'n'Pepper pots eventually.
AAANNNNDDD I've altered the front brake hanger washers to get some more bite.
1 more: I've also stuck ODI Ruffian grips.
I've already been laughed at twice by the youfff but this morning I got my first "naaice bike mistah". 8)
That's the local dailect for "I'm nicking that!"
Finally got Facebook working. Please be my friend (and that really is as sad as it sounds) and thank you to those who already have. It gets the ride and donating page out there a bit more if nothing else,
Faceache- I mean Facebook is Steve Monks.
Cycling specific prize goodies to be announced soon
I suppose it's inevitable but yet more sad news from St. Ann's this morning.
I'm bewildered how they make such a sad place so very special and often full of laughter. I'm humbled. Sorry. I'm going for a ride for a bit.
Humbled again! Jedi [url]www.ukbikeskills.co.uk[/url] has donated a voucher for a place on one of his immense skills courses.
Legend. Thank you Tony. Immense generosity.
Get your ealy bid in. I'm going to open an auction (of sorts) on the classifieds tomorrow for it.
[url] http://www.justgiving.com/stannsbigbikeride [/url]
Ace UK Bike Skills Coaching Day voucher for sale in the classifieds. Proceeds to go to the fundraising.
It could be a bargain place up for grabs
Massive thanks to Tony at [url] http://www.ukbikeskills.co.uk/index.html [/url]
Someone's bought the Jedi voucher 🙂
[i]I promise I'm not going to spam the forum. Pleaase don't nuclear bomb my post. I'll maybe give it a prod or two of the coming couple of months but I'm loath to get on people's nerves with it**[/i]
Screw that for a lark, let's get this bugger stickied. It's an astounding effort for a worthy cause.
monksie , just bumped it up for you
Thank You Voodoo for the bump and thank you IHN for your purchase. Your voucher (and your tickets for the main draw - more bike prizes to be added) will be on their way to you by email this very evening.
edit. just seen your donation as well Voodoo. Thank you loads. I'll also get your big prize draw tickets emailed to you.
Thanks everyone
Steve
monksie , put my tickets in the pot to go towards the charity
Thank you Voodoo, very generous. If your tickets win something, I'll let you know and if you are determined not to have it, I'll either donate the item to the hospice or Ebay it and add the selling price to the fund.
Have another donation and a bump.
If you die just short of the finish line I'll double my donation. Deal?
Haha! Absolutely mint! Thank you Andy 🙂
Wednesday bump.
Thank you Si 🙂
Can I take this opportunity to say thank you to everybody who has donated (tickets for the draw are allocated each day and I'll let you all know your numbers - IHN has 85 of the buggers!), donated a prize, sent best wishes, offered cake, offered a bed for the night, [b]paid[/b] for a bed for the night....I bet you're all bored of me saying it but I stop and look and it's humbling.
11 weeks until the off, 1 week into raising cash and already almost at £500!
Thanks everyone, you're all mint!
I don't need 85 tickets fella, just give me the one.
Now keep plugging it and get some cash raised 🙂
Bugger! I had to pay my 14 years old permanently sulky daughter £5 to write yours out mate!
Can I take this opportunity to also thank 'Elf' for the very generous email offer of a night at his -ooer' etc.
Fiver added. Good luck!
sponsored.
best of luck.
Just donated, very best of luck.
Tell her she can have 5 of mine, and she can put the fiver in the pot 🙂
Thanks loads for the donations. You [b]all[/b] still continue to be mint!
She's like her mum. She only has to see cash and it becomes hers. No chance of getting it back.
Does anybody have contact details for Simonfbarnes of Boggtrotter fame? St Ann's and possibly one more place would like to use a photo of me he has taken for some website promotion regarding all this and I need to request his kind permission to use it.
I'll put you in touch
edit - he's in Heaton chapel this afternoon so you could even meet up for a tea 🙂
We could as well! I'm in Reddish all day 🙂
good luck mate, sponsered cos i wanna be jedi'ed 8)
Er, hate to tell you this Ton, but I bought the Jedi voucher, it's not in the drawer. It's still a good cause though 🙂
Reddish/Heaton Chapel *shudder* 😉
Oooh arse! I forgot that it was on the Just Giving page in big red letters! Tell you what Ton, if one of your tickets comes out, I'll buy you a session with Jedi at www.ukbikeskills.co.uk
Mr I Hate...youse a snob, innit. 🙂
Another big thanks to everyone who has donated today and since this began, bought me a hotel room for the night, offered to buy me a hotel room, Bunnyhop at http://emmyjane-design.blogspot.co.uk/ (the donated bag is on the emmyjane website front page)
Hopefully I'll have something else to add to the draw this weekend.
Monksie you have my permission - and I prefer my work to be attributed where feasible 🙂
Thank you Simon and I'll make sure they're aware.
will add some cash tomorrow lunchtime at work - hope it's a good one!!
couldn't wait - a bit more to help you!!!
Best of luck. . . That's gotta be worth a few quid
Cheers fella's, absolutely mint
A final warning for Internet use at work means I'll be (probably thankfully) leaving you all alone during the working day.
I just wanted to say thank you to everybody so far and I'll update this thread in the evenings and weekends.
Don't worry, we'll keep bumping it 🙂
Oh heck! I've just agreed to do it dressed as a super hero if the total reaches the new, increased target!
(thanks for the help IHN and to everybody who has supported so far)
Hey up!
If you want to cancel the room and stay with Elf, just tell me; I can cancel it at no charge and you can have the money instead.
Friday afternoon post-pub-lunch-whilst-listening-to-slash-on-r2-iplayer bump
Thank you NBT
I have a 100 mile steady road ride early tomorrow morning to Chester and back and a long steady Peak District ride on Sunday if anybody local to me fancies either or both?
I'm starting to argue with myself now, I've been doing that much riding on my own I've gone past talking to myself.
6:30am tomorrow and a much more friendly 8:30am start on Sunday. Off road ride will be to Macc. Forest, Goyt Valley, PBW, Perryfoot, Pindale and back to Stockport by what ever route that isn't Jacobs Ladder.
A size Large, Pink Rapha logo t-shirt has now been added to the prize fund. Donator wishes to remain annonymous.
Thank you, you know how much this ride means to all involved and hos muchly needed the sponsorship is.
Any help I give, is yours.
have a tenner, good luck - it's the weekend before my wedding so I can't see myself having any spare time to assist or cheer but best luck
A late night in Blackpool and it's peeing down. I've binned today's ride. I'll walk the dog....round the garden, possibly.
Huge thanks to Ed anf Adam for the latest dontions. You have tickets allocated. I really need to get on with handing them out or emailing the numbers and security codes.
Monksie, please tell me you haven't ridden out in this weather, even a walk in the garden with the dog is a danger especially if tall trees are around?
We don't want to lose you before the big day.
Nah, I've been doing house chores but thanks for your concern. The mutt wouldn't go out in that wind anyway.
Thanks to MartynS for the latest donation. I'll email ticket numbers to everyone still waiting as soon as I get chance.
Just to update. The prizes so fat are:
Digital TV
Emmyjane handmade bag
Rapha T-shirt.
Skills training day with Jedi UK Bike Skills (IHN pais outright for that one but if Ton wins in the raffle, I'm going ot buy him a days coaching).
More to be added.
Thanks to everybody so far for donating and for the prizes (except the TV, I paid for that).
Monday bump
Thank you Mr Nettles.
Bumpty bump
Thank you NBT. It's gone a bit quiet on the fundraising.
Speaking to some media people today and tomorrow and riding my bike lots and lots.
You can even text a quid to the cause now. Just text the code:
[b]IUIC87[/b]
then the amount
[b]£1[/b]
to telephone mumber: [b]70070[/b]
or if you want to donate more, chnage the £1 for what ever figure you like. Then email me your details for your prize ticket.
Hey! It works!
...although it cost me a whole pound to find out... 😉
Bump
Just donated, if my number comes out on the raffle ebay the prize and add the winnings to the charity pot.
I've not been out riding with you for 4 years, slowly getting out for recreational riding now the kids are getting older, but if you want someone to tag along for a few miles towards the end let us know!
Steve
Hey up Steve! It must have been longer than 4 years. Flip. And you have little twisted pencils? Congratulations.
Thanks for the donation and yes, it would be great to have you towing me along. Can I put you in for the Stoke to Manchester section?
Anybody else got a quid to spare via text?
Ha! I've only just seen it was you who texted a quid Crikey! Thank you 🙂
