I was on the brink of finally buying the shimano M4100 set for christmas after waiting half a year, only to see that the M5120 derailleur I was looking at is all out of stock. Could an older derailleur like the SLX RD M670 still do the job? I am still set on buying the rest of the components of the M4100 groupset including the 11-46 cassette.

Thanks

I’d say… no. An 11spd mech (that can easily handle the 46t, such as M7000 GS) would be a better move. I you want Deore, the M6000 GS will do the job at a pinch (Shimano claim 42t max) if you can't get the newer one... plenty of them out there... I bought one recently.

@kelvin would an 11 speed derailleur work with a 10 speed 11-46 cassette?

Yes, if you use a 10 speed shifter.

Looks like M7000 GS are cheaper than M6000 GS now as well... so might as well get the lighter 11spd one.
