OK, here's the deal. I am getting married in the summer and living in bike poverty til then so in return my dearly beloved has agreed that I can get a new bike next spring.

I tentatively said that I'd need to spend £2.5k (expecting to be negotiated down) but she agreed instantly. She could be on the apprentice with negotiating skills like hers.

So, the options list so far is Lapierre, Orange, Scott. Any other suggestions or ideas? Bear in mind the purchase is 10 months away but I reckon it'll take me that long to decide. I've never spent that much on a bike before!

ta, G

i think you will find that she will agree to anything until you are married, and then by god it will change.
so get the bike just before the wedding!!!!!

Second that, make sure you get it & ride it before the wedding as you won't be allowed out once you've tied the knot.Forever lost in endless tasks like paiting fence panels, tip runs, washing the car, mowing the lawn..... 😉

Can you get a 575 for that? I bought my frame s/hand and done a proper poverty-spec build.ie all the old stuff off the Stumpjuper that fits. A marvelous, flattering bike.
i do like the Orange 5,a very capable, robust bike.

I'm thinking of buying an '08 S-Works Enduro frame/forks for £1500 and building it up by chucking another grand at it.

Either that or an '09 Remedy 8

I got the 08 s-works enduro sl frame only w/o seatpost for not much money, sold my present on sale enduro expert frame, and built it for less than £1700. I think that's a great buy.

PS I've ordered a set of traversee wheels on the sly...I'm getting married next Feb, so not sure how she will react after that date...

Thos Lapierre Spicy's getting rave reviews mind.....

How are you getting on with it - the forks/shock in particular?

Oh - any idea what weight you've built it up to?

Whyte E120? a bit more than that - but I love mine. you could do a cheaper build with a frame+kit i guess.

It's my 3rd enduro, as long as you follow a guide to service the fork on mtbr.com when its due you will enjoy a real plush solid fork. Better imho than a 09 Talas 36 RC2. The rear shock is suited to the enduro. The new forks are sorted and with mark Dennis as the Suspension guy at Spesh you wont have problems. I find the carbo front nicer than the aluminium for taking some edge off the rough stuff.

I already have an '06 Enduro, which I love - just want something as capable, but lighter.

Yep same here as I had an s-works 06 too. Though a 575 and a heckler inbetween.
