After taking part in a decent number of escapades in 2012, I want to concentrate more on going long / bikepacking

Always loved the concept of a Fargo and seen a few on the events I have taken part in

Would go for the V2 so I could run it either rigid or with sus forks.

Question is, will it just be the wrong type of bike for just for hooning around with friends in the Peak?

I love mine but it doesn't get ridden that often really and for hooning about I tend to use my 456. I think it would be a fantastic machine capable of anything the 456 is with a pair of rebas on the front, the enabler fork is a nice idea but the anything cages are very prone to breaking - mine have cracks in them after four 4 rides.

The thing that would probably make it perfect is if they had fitted those swinging drop outs like the El Mariachi, I'd like to try it singlespeed.

Haven't had mine that long but I really like it. It does have the steel feel, i.e. springy taking out the harshness. Particularly as the oem WTB saddle feels rock hard!

They do seem to size up small. I've got a Medium Spearfish which suits me fine but my Fargo is a large. Going to do the Bearbones el-an back on it in a couple of weeks.

Unless you particularly desire the drop bars, an El Mariachi might suit you better.

Fear not, the Fargo won't be enough to hide my general unpreparedness. Still looking forward to it though!

salsa fargo ive had a yetiasx and a on-one inbred and a road bike, got fed up of having 3 bikes so i sold them all and bought a salsa fargo frame and built it up sourcing components from mail order shops.
i have been on various bike packing trips, cycle touring with panniers, days out in the peaks.
i have 2 sets of wheels one with road touring tires and offroad tyres 2.4 ardent on the front 2.25 ardent on the back i can decend quicker than my mates on santa cruz superlites,29ers just roll over everything even went through a small rock garden sat down peddaling.
the fargo is a good trail bike if you stick to days out on smooth trails, ive done the red route at dalby and found that quite fast.

I've had one for a couple of months and have been pretty amazed at what it will do - ideal winter / monsoon bike, although it hasn't been out of Kent........... use it for longish on / off rides. Did 25 miles with a bunch of roadies on an admittedly pretty leisurely road ride and kept up okay. It's a hoot

don't see why it wouldn't manage the Peaks but could be a bit harsh on the rougher stuff

I'm 6 foot and have a large with 100mm stem and layback post with Woodchipper bars, built up with old 9 speed stuff, BB7's and tubeless wheels so lightish (about 26 lbs I think)

would probably have gone for a Gryphon but ended up with Mr bikemongers ex-demo

headsup - a couple of blog posts and pics of it built up here:

Unfortunately it doesn't look like I'll be doing El-an back, I'm away for work the week before and the week after, going away for the two days in between is not likely to be conducive to a happy home environment!

Get one, they are a very capable bike and I go most places on mine, good loaded up with camping kit and great unloaded for just dicking about on in the woods, mine gets the most use of all my bikes.
Anything cages are a bit fragile, salsa do a custom made frame bag for them or you can get one cheaper from wildcat (very good quality) or alpkit.
