It's new forks time, Jtech are offering a good deal on the Ohlins at the moment. Anyone running these and how are they holding up?... Im torn between these and a set of Lyrik ultimates, the Lyriks are £100 cheaper but are coming from Germany so I'm just a bit apprehensive as the Ohlins will be stripped and set up for me but the Lyriks will be straight from the factory.
I just got a set of Lyriks from Germany. Spent an evening fitting invisiframe and slick graphics, then stripped the fork and checked grease, oil and bushings. All spot on. Glad I got them.
Not tried the ohlins. Is it still considered a very race oriented fork damping wise?
Coil or Air?
I've not decided on coil or air yet.... Im tempted towards the coil as I'm running coil on the rear. From what I've read and heard the damping is good for the normal riding but jtech will tune it to what I want.
Isn't the JTech deal on the old ones? The new model is £1250
@ifindoubtflatout I'm just about to advertise a set of mint condition Ohlins forks (HIGHER spec than the RFX36 Evo you mention)- have sent you a message. Failing that if you dont get it send me a mail or reply here.
I thought the RXF Evo has the TTX damper as well or am I mistaken.
I have a set of coils on the front of my Enduro.
All the adjustability you could ever need with single point adjustments that actually make a noticeable difference. (forks have rebound, HSC, and LSC) although as someone's already pointed out they are quite heavily damped out of the factory, so either get them custom tuned to you, or (as I do) run them with min damping. Like all coil set ups, swapping different rates is a two min job. Mine are 160mm, but I don't think I've topped out, there's an air chamber at the bottom that acts as a stop that has a pretty high pressure set from the factory (on air versions you can adjust it). Like all coils they're pretty plush, although there's not a lot of oil in the legs so they benefit from being upside down over-night every couple of months or so to the oil back to the bushes. Lower leg service is as straight forward as any other fork I've owned, no great surprises there. Axle is just a straight forward hex key with a pinch bolt so no faffing with a "not quite good enough QR system" So overall, easy to live with, and no down time for me over 2 years of ownership. Service schedules are sensible, and all mine need are regular wiper seal changes, and normal interval lower leg oil changes.
The fork is just one of those "Shut up and get on with it" bits of kit. It goes where you point it, and with a good grippy tyre on the front it's totally accurate in the tech. Nothing really seems to phase it, it's not the very best at big hits, and it's not the very best at chatter, but it's a really consistent and competent all rounder that's just really reliable, and as it's coil your not topping it up constantly or equalizing neg and pos. air (although that's true of most coils). I'd have another.
I got a set nearly a year ago from Jtech. Love them. Properly stiff, adjustable and have been almost faultless.
I say almost as the only thing I wish they had was more clearance between the lower bridge and the tyre. It's a tad tight.
If you buy one, run a proper mudguard like the rrp bolt on one as this will stop stones damaging the arch.
Other than that, they are superb. As are Jtech
