Going to build up a genius frame soon and the bb is 118mm, I guess to allow for the bb fitting front mech?

I've always fitted 113mm bb's from the drive side in other frames before but noticed the longer part of the axle is on the locking cup side so...
Do I fit as normal from the drive side or fit from the left side allowing the longer axle for the front mech fitting?

Thanks

if you put the loose cup on the BB, does the axle still look "long" on one side? I always though the axle is centred in the shell when fitted.

you can get 112 or 113 octalink bottom brackets. Theres only one side adjustable from memory isnt there?? I always loose fit the bearing cup (as a guide for the axle), then the axle and other cup and go back and tighten adjust the other side... (this is based on the XTR bb - dont know if others are different).

Does sound like the axle will be too long but dont know how much diff 5mm will make.

If there is more axle sticking out on the non-drive, check to see if its stamped 'E' which is for the e-type front mechs. They're offsett to accomodate the mounting plate

If its Octalink you won't have a choice, the axle and the bottom bracket are one unit, and the drive side cup will only screw into the drive side of the frame (unless I've massively misunderstood the original post?)

All the Octalink BBs I've had have had the same amount of axle each side (non-adjustable). I've always fitted the cartridge on the driveside and the adapter on the non-driveside. P20 might be right about the E-type though.

If I remember rightly, a 118mm axle gives a 50mm chainline whilst 113mm give a 47.5mm one.
