MegaSack DRAW - 6pm Christmas Eve - LIVE on our YouTube Channel
Using the Shimano Square Tapre/Octalink BB remover, I spent last night, unsuccessfully, trying to install my new 105 5500 Octalink bottom bracket into my road bike.
The problem is that the BB remover will not fit over the drive side spindle of the bottom bracket (the spindle is too thick), therefore I can't use the tool to tighten the BB into the frame.
I take it this means I need to shell out £££'s for another BB removal tool? Anyone came across this before?

it is this one:

and the blurb says:
"Oversize BB Axle with Splined Ends . Large 22mm diameter hollow pipe billet axle reduces weight. . Splined ends provide a more rigid, non-loosening crank assembly"
So, I guess that when it says "oversize" that means that may standard BB removal will not fit?

think this is what i need:

That tool will only work on one end - I've got a genuine shimano bb tool that worked on sq taper cartridges before I had an octalink one - if yours is a non shimano tool that's probably the only reason it doesn't fit your new bb
OK - so I just need to buy a standard Shimano Square Taper/Octalink BB remover?
Or an adapter(like a metal top hat), or sometimes a small coin that fits inside the crank splines but over the axle will do the job.
Think my Octalink adaptor is IceToolz - probably bought from CRC.
Edit: they don't seem to do IceToolz mmm...
try this

I think he is talking about the cups not the arms chaps
Racing Ralph is right
I have removed a Square Taper BB and Crank and I'm trying to fit an Octalink BB using the same BB remover I user for the Square Taper BB.

X tools you just need to find somebody with it in stock, mine looks more like the ISIS one on the CRC site.
my Icetoolz one has a whacking great hole in the middle. Anywhere near sheffield and you can collect it
can't you use your cup from your old BB on the non drive side??
just a thought?

stockholm, I'm afraid!
If your tool does not fit over the axle then you need to get one that does.

thanks - I came to that conclusion in my first post 😉
The Park ones fit over no problem, I've used them for years, but found several that don't-generally cheaper versions seem to have thicker walls so won't fit over.
SV.
you've found a cheaper one than me, good work!

Just checked I do have the 'ISIS' one as I need to use it with a 1/2 socket handle and torque wrench. Not sure what size of spanner you would need for the first one - large adjustables 😉
